Cats

A bunch of birds will eat domestic cats too, Hawks, Eagals, Falcons & such...

I saw a turkey kill a cat, so it goes both ways
& they (the congress, aka a bunch of Turkeys) all started to tear it apart & eat it too

Cats don't survive more than a week where I live. Too many wild predators.

We do have bobcats around these parts of Georgia. They can sometimes be seen at the Savannah National Wildlife Reserve. They will eat small alligators!

Plus Coyotes...They are always getting Cats and strays here where I live in NW NV!!! Along with small Dogs, etc...cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

I've read about the effect they have on the bird population, which is no surprise since cats themselves populate like crazy. I try to get all of them fixed, especially the females since that seems like a bigger bang for the buck. On the plus side neighbors on both sides have acknowledged the rodent problem we all had years ago and how it went away when I had a couple of cats in the yard. I think all the credit would go to one cat in particular tho, she's a straight up mouser where the others are laid back.

I never liked cats much but my wife does. After our dog died we ended up with a cat - and now we are on our third.

Cats are different creatures than dogs, but I have learned to like them a lot, just like dogs. All three of our cats were/are indoor cats, and my wife taught all of them to stay off the kitchen counters, tables and furniture. All of our cats have been very affectionate and friendly, but they are not pack animals so they don't behave like dogs.

Bottom line is I like all animals, and cats are cool too if you give them a chance.

This was our cat Zoe. She would throw herself down the stairs backwards to play. She was so fast and coordinated it was amazing.

Looking at you pix of Zoe, it appears that she is a Russian Blue.....playful, very intelligent, loyal, bright green eyes, silver gray fur, the way the ears set.....I also have a Russian Blue.....her name is Emmie, short for Emeraude (the French word for Green...the color of her eyes).....similar characteristics of the breed.....and Emmie, when she wants to play, will present her toys at my feet, and when I toss one across the room, she'll pick it up and return it, to toss again.....and again. Look up the breed on Google......very enlightening....a special cat......just thought you might like to know about my cat......btw.....this past summer, when Cicadas were prevalent, Emmie would catch and eat 5 or 6 day (also grass hoppers, lawn moths, etc).....then present me some used Cicadas......

Experts say that cats kill between 1 to 4 billion birds every year, causing one-third of the 800 U.S. native bird species to be endangered or in significant decline.

Indoor cats live 4x as long as outdoor cats on average. If your cat is really a pet and you care about them, you keep them inside away from other critters.

This is not to disparage working cats such as at barns, farms, etc. They have their purpose.

We lost a small Siamese to a hawk and another was attacked twice.
After we figured out what was going on, they all came in.
They had been inside/outside for six years give or take.
I was surprised how well they adapted.
That was about 5-6 years ago.

In the 70's there was a plague of feral cats out the local rubbish tip these things were as big as a dog put 7 .22cal bullets in the head of one before it would die .

Probably not gonna get a lot of sympathy for shooting cats on a pet cat thread.

I know. "Hey look a thread about cats, I get to tell my story about shooting one!" Gotta wonder about people sometimes.

Got no problem at all with Domestic cats had a few myself but when they are released into the wild it is a different story it is calculated they kill in excess of 1.4 Billion Australia native animals per year it is a full time job for Aboriginal tribes in Australia to remove feral cats from the wilderness .

Yes, she was a Russian Blue, with a little of something else mixed in - you could see her stripes in the right light only.

And boy, did she have fur! Kind of like a German Shepard, they have two coats. You could brush two new cats out of Zoe in the spring and still not have made a dent!

Cats are natural born killers and that makes them cool to have around. No mice or spiders or Flys in our house. We have always had black cats, meet Mike and Larry our two pest killers.

Domestic cats released into the wild should not be made to suffer because of humans irresponsibility.

...and it certainly should not be a bragging point...on any level.
