This is my 1st thread since the software upgrade so please bear with me.

I am working on assembling the back half of my 1969 charger.
I am mocking up the quarter panel and have questions about where the
quarter panel, rear valance, valance corner and rear cross-member come together

Here is a pic of the passenger side

This is a pic of the drivers side No quarter panel so I can get a better picture

In this pic there is a lot going on. Different pieces coming together (kinda hard to see)
basically my problem is when I pull the valance corner up against the
cross member (X member) I have a gap between the raised floor pan lip, and the rear valance.
This needs to be tight as it will get plug welded.

You also notice the same gap between the floor pan and X-member.

Should the floor pan move rearward until the floor pan lip hits the rear valance?
Or in this pic move the floor pan back and decrease that same gap?

I really don't want to do this because if the floor moves rearward then the wheel wells,
quarter panel, and rockers will need to move back (I think)
Unless I force the floor and leave everything else alone?

Don,
I had some similar issues but with mine but the issues I had was the floor pan was too long and I had to cut it back. A few questions:
1. Do you have your doors on and is the gap a the doors to the 1/4, rocker, and to the fenders ok? For me this was pretty critical to get the doors in the right place 1st.
2. How much of a dimension is there from the bottom of the rear valance to the bottom of the 1/4 corner (1st pic)? Looks like an inch or two?
3. When I first fit up the *** of my car I had some issues I could not figure out. Ended up my frame rails were a 1/2" too high and I had to re-set them. They creped up a little during welding again. So double check your frame rails dimensions.
I have a pretty busy weekend but I'll try to look thru my pics on this area to see if I can find any that might help you.

Give me a call, might be able to figure it out from talking.

1. You bring up some good points. All of the dimensions have been checked in the past BUT I will need to check them again, starting with the door fitting properly to the 1/4's and moving back.
2 - 3. the 1st picture is showing the 1/4 panel in a relaxed state.
When I first fit the quarter, because it was low in the rear (1st pic) I thought my frame rail dimension might be off, but I checked it and it was good!
I can force the rear of the 1/4 up to meet the bottom of the valance, but I dont know how much forcing I should have to do?
I may have to give you a call... kinda hard to explain. Thanks

Didn't Hunt2Elk have a similar problem? I think it's documented in his thread.

If you don't find your answers PM me and I'll get some pics, my frame rails and rear crossmember were in excellent shape so they should be a good reference provided I can get a good pic. I did however replace the rear valence, corners, trunk floor and Quarters so I might have a pic. Good luck

Sorry Don. Looked thru all my picks and didn't find any that might be of help to you. Guess I only took pics after I was done banging my head against a wall and not during. :BangHead: Let me know if you want to stop by on your next trip out here or give me a call to talk it thru.

Thanks everyone for your help. I still have not figured this out, and is really frustrating.
My problem is not really knowing which piece that needs adjusting. But I will get it.
Paul, I will be giving you a call soon
Thanks again.

I have been working the entire back end and I need a couple of dimensions....
If I could get dimensions from the trunk floor to the top and bottom edge of the tail light buckets that would help me to know where I need to be.
If you could get those dimensions on the outer side of the valance support that would be great! kinda like my pic... (I'm getting 5-3/4 and 8-7/8)

With the dimensions please let me know if you replaced your valance, and or tail panel or if you have an original car.... original car dimensions would be preferred but it will be interesting to see what if any differences there are.
