Getting ready to replace my trunk floor. There are three brackets in the back of the trunk. Two look like they are connected to the valance and the other is the trunk latch support. Do these have to be removed to replace the trunk pan or can the pan slide underneath these?

They will have to be removed to get the pan installed in one piece.

I was hoping that wasn't the case. Don't like cutting out more than I have to

it is nott hat hard to do. If your concerned mark the floor with a scrible and when you put the new floor in take a can of spray paint and mark the pan from under the car. Then punch jholes and grind off the electro plate near weld areas and screw it down before plug welding.

I am just worried about messing them up. I would like to cut out as little as possible.

What are thoughts on cutting out just the rust areas and welding in patches vs trying to replace the metal to the edges? I know more exposed weld lines but more of my speed for first time cutting into the body and welding. I would just need the center and some of the left portion of the trunk replaced.

Change the whole piece - the trunk is the best place for a beginner to learn metal replacement on these cars in my opinion. You can spend as much time as you need learning how to plug weld, and seam sealer ends up getting smeared around the perimeter of the pan to hide any imperfections.

Good point hunt. its much easier to replace the trunk floor with everything out of the way. Just mark and measure where everything is so when you take it apart you can put it back together the same way again.
