The POLL should have been:
Charger VS GTX

Dodge's premiere was the Charger
Plymouth's premiere was the GTX

BUT, I love the Superbee!
I dont know about that. See you can get a charger with a 318. Gtx does not have that option. I would call the coronet r/t the equivalent of the gtx. The super bee and the road runner are comparable. But, the charger is different. Plymouth didnt make a model that was comparable to the charger.

I'm a Dodge man all the way, I'll take a Challenger over a Cuda or a Charger over a RR any day for the same reason SHARP CRISP SEXY BODY LINES. Having said that I love the RRs too just prefer the sharp lines of the Dodges.

The charger was a nicer driving, more expensively made car than a roadrunner. The Charger Cost more, and they were in a different market from the Roadrunner for Mopar. The record speaks for itself, as the charger will sell much faster and for more money than any Roadrunner, At least the 68-69 models. The GTX now was on par with the Charger luxury wise. However, a 318 charger will still draw more Buyers than a Roadrunner. I like all of them myself, but Plymouth never advertised the Roadrunner as a muscle car/luxury car. You could never get rubber floors in a Charger. The Roadrunner was $500.00 less in price back then for a reason. Today that is like $5,000.00. in Today's Money. Even back then, the saying was: you could order a Roadrunner station wagon, but a Charger came only one way.

68 charger ohhhh yehhh, I love road runners, but they resemble a brick

Of course I prefer the Roadrunner... I do also Love the Charger. Not crazy about the 69 Charger interior with the saggy map packets on the doors... just my opinion.

totally agreed... even being a B body, Plymouth doesn't have a similar car, so maybe the comparision is not totally fair.

Coronets ( whichever version ) and Belvederes ( Whichever version ) are same more less body lines... short C pillar, similar options side to side compairing same version but Plymouths being kinda cheaper, not bad just for diff pocket disposition.

Charger is a diff line. Same happens with A body Barracudas, which never got a Dodge brother, and Darts were just a close brother talking about performance and options, but never to a body/shell version.

Neither Valiants... Dart is kinda in the middle

If the question is from 68-70 than Road Runner for sure. When you get to 71 then it gets hard. The 71 Charger is one of the nicest cars ever made and the 71 Road Runner is very cool too but depending on how they are dressed the Charger would get the nod.

69 RR car of the year how many can say that? hehe

I believe that's game, set, and match. :)

??? a Roadrunner station wagon is news to me. Also, as for Chargers being "one way" I suspect all the guys who've had issues with SE vs Non-SE sail panel covers might disagree. :)

Why? Because motor trend named it car of the year? Just 3 years later they named the Citroen car of the year. Is this the kind of company road runner wants to be in? Hey, 1980 was the chevy citation!:hello2:

I know you are referring to 70 and older! But those are nasty looking bricks!!!!

NO NO NO NO.
You can't say one is "better".
They are too much the MOPAR same under the skin.

You should ask which one is cooler.
Charger MAY win a popularity contest on looks.
But a coke bottle Road Runner is cooler hands down.
Beep effing Beep.
Plus the Charger has been in too many movies and TV shows for my taste now.
That is not a positive thing IMO.
IF they had stopped after Bullitt, it would be different.
I would feel pretentious driving one now.
Thanks a bunch to the Hollywood pin heads.

Coke bottle road runner? Charger invented the coke bottle

I know it's commonly applied to the Charger, but look at the flanks of the 68-70 Belvedere bodies.
That is just as much a Coke bottle as the Charger, I think.

Yep, but what year was the Charger named Car of the Year? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Also, as I recall Road Runners outsold Chargers every year except for 1968 since production was limited, and outsold by about 20k cars. Seems like more folks liked the Roadrunner over the Charger then too. :)

Liked, or settled for what they could afford. Ar least there is still a chance charger could be named car of the year.:laughing1:
