checking oil level in rv2 compressor

service many says you can do it, but as soon as I start to loosen the oil fill plug I hear hissing. scared if I remove it, I will make a huge mess. Has anyone ever attempted this?
 
I think you have to evacuate the system to bleed down the pressure. Then you'll have to pull a vacuum and recharge it.

Yes with a fully evacuated system.
Need an old oil dipstick to measure the oil. In the service manual.

yup you need to evacuate and check with dip stick
