Chrysler Turbine car 1963

Chyrsler paid those loans off in full. Wiith interest. Early. I saw Leno drive the Turbine in to Spring Fling a couple of years ago. On bias tires.

Interesting! I wonder if the compressor blade found in the Pentagon wreckage on 9-11 that they say was from the plane the supposedly crashed into the Pentagon was from one of these Chrysler descendant engine?

NO. Period. Sadly it was an a civilian aircraft with many innocent people.

That is a perfect example, of a 63 Chrysler Turbine Car, in Jay Lenos garage for sure... I wonder, does anyone has any better Photos of the 1962's, they looked like the Darts kind of ??... Look in the photo below...

The 1962 was a Dart. All the history, with plenty of the 1950's versions included are on this 34 page document from Chrysler after the Turbine was released:

This is probably the best website for the Turbine cars. It was done by a guy who's family was one of the few chosen to drive the cars.

Thank you that's been very helpful...

Actually the turbine development went on for far longer than has been stated.

The M1 tank was developed by Chrysler, but as part of the loan package, they had to sign it away as one of the conditions of the loan guarantees.

It's to bad that politics had to get in the way of such an interesting design.

Chryslers defense dept made lots of cool things. A great majority of the first space capsules were designed by Chrysler. If fact they had a manf assy plant located at 16 mile and Mound in Sterling hits Mich. on occasion they would test the large booster rockets for maned space flight outside in the rear of the property. Some of the test cell placements were still visible until a few years ago. In the early 60's they had inside this plant captured V2's and buzz bombs from Germany, as well as some hot Russian stuff. It was inside a building inside the big building. Fairly tight security for its day. Mopar had great aerospace engineers, hell the racing program borrowed some of them to shape the Daytonas and Superbirds as extra horsepower was getting harder to make to go faster on big tracks. Aerospace engineers laughed at the engine guys as they were trying to push bricks through the air.... These pencil geeky guys were working on the moon shot stuff and they though humerous that they were need to help make a quick fix to get cars to go faster.. I digress. Well guarded secret for many years, even the city didn't know that there was a live ICBM missile type silo in the roof of this plant. Federal gov didn't tell local gov of what was possible there. James Bond stuff. Lol

some photos

GM was in the turbine game also. I knew a guy that worked at the GM proving grounds, he talked about driving a loaded semi that was turbine powered. I also saw a couple of the trucks that had at one time had the turbine power plant in it. You could tell by the giant exhaust stacks. Trucks were repowered by new owners (sold minus turbine and trans) this was in the early 70s so not sure when GM got out of the turbine game.
