Cleaning 62 Savoy grill

My headlight bezel's are out for painting and it's time to clean up the grill. I figured you guys will know the best and easiest way to polish those mesh grills.

Best and easiest dont go together unless you include expensive. As far as i know. I just did the grill of my 64 plymouth. I went the cheap route. Cost me a lot of time and effort. By hand with sandpaper and some polish and towels. Spread the time out over about a month. Bent it back into shape by hand and small tools. JB weld for the broken pieces. I am sure a pro could have done it better but I feel its 100 times nicer than what i started with. And cost maybe $20. in supplies.

I agree with hangnOut. Grills are anodized and to polish, the coating must be removed. Commercial products are available for this and I understand that oven cleaner will remove anodizing also. Once removed you can use standard polishing procedures to shine up that grill. Without the anodizing, the surface is softer and will require maintance polishing or one of the available metal conditioners can be applied to maintain the polished appearance. It is a lot of work but well worth the time/money for the final look.

Spend the money and have it re anodized if you can afford it,you can polish it all you want but eventually it will start to get a milking looking finish. Clear coating polished aluminum will help buy eventually will wear off. All external aluminum trim that is exposed to the elements is anodized,only way for long term protection. This grille is original to the car,never touched,the bezels are 55 yr old N.O.S.

My grill is in good shape. Seems it's just the outer bezels that get beat up. Maybe just a wash and wax

I used steel wool on the grill for my 64. It is not perfect but it cleaned up very good and most of shine is back.
