What is best method to use to clean the top of a yellow Optima battery? It seems to have dark stains that I cannot remove using normal cleaners. I will post a picture tomorrow if that will help.

Maybe some solvent and emery cloth

I got it pretty clean with just Comet cleanser.

Boil your kettle, and pour generously over the battery top.
