Hello, I am putting in a progression distributor and am having a clearance issue. In the picture enclosed I circled a ridge in the cylinder head causing the problem. Can I grind that down? Thank you for your help.

No water or port very near to that. I would not worry about
a .050 to .100 cut. But I have never had to do that even with a
mag if the unit is clocked in correctly. You can move wires
if that helps for clearance for unit.
However, i do not know what a progression distributor actually
is (I am very Old School).

Thank you for your reply GTX John. Here is a link to the distributor Progression Ignition.
I have cleared everything else out of the way. It is so close to seating all the way in but the ridge in the cylinder head is blocking it from dropping all the way in.

They look very similar to a Holley hyper spark or a MSD RTR.

On my 493 with Trick Flow 240's and a MSD RTR, they had to remove .020" for clearance in that area.

You want to be able to tune your car with your phone??? What could possibly go wrong if doing that while driving?

That's just casting flash. Grind away and be happy.
But GTX John is right. The housing and wire positions can be changed to suit. That HAS to be done for a tach-drive distributor. No big deal.

My Progression fit perfect in that area w Stealth heads, but had to clearance the aluminum valve covers. Apparently now he's having them made just a bit smaller in diameter. I'd grind that area down, no biggie at all.

Imo this is really interesting / amazing spin on an old school setup. The distributor may look a bit out of place but still looks resembles factory look.

And you don't tune WHILE you are driving . Its no different then any of the other modern fuel injection conversions like holley, Fi-tech ect or modern cars that give you real time information. Or data logged and or recorded so you can make changes AFTER a drive .

I had to grind my head a little in the same area, pertronix distributor. It will be fine.

Out of curiosity....what happens when the cell phone battery hoes dead, or it gets lost......IMO....TOO MUCH DEPENDENCY on the cell phone apps for individual thinking......btw.....there is a cell phone app to tell the user how much T.P. (or bum fodder) to use per application.....one never knows......

It doesn't run off the cell phone. It is run off the car 12v system. It retains whatever timing curve you program in it. It has Bluetooth capability so you can adjust the curve without disassembling the distributor. It can be a cell phone, laptop etc... you set it to 10° and lock it in. Then you set your curve, slow/fast, all in timing, and how much advance under vacuum.

I’ll try to pull over first. With mechanical I had to pull over, pull off the cap and change weights and bushings on the fly. Now I just pull out an app while the car is running and my tunes flowin adjust the timing in the grid and hit send. Also fun to play with when you have a passenger. You can drive and they can update the timing as you roll.

The system runs on its own and is not entirely dependent on a smart device. It is dependent at setup though. As long as you have the pin you can access it from any device via Bluetooth. The app imo allows you to get even deeper into timing and really makes you have to understand how it works. To your point in the event of some sort of electric pulse Armageddon event I still have my mechanical I can slip back in.

Geez people he asked for help, not criticize what he wants to use. Some people want a lot of tech in the cars some don’t, to each is there own, who cares!

Sounds like you got great advice, so grind away!

This is exactly why I posted what I said. See 69XMan, your reply nails it with that one phrase..... "I'll TRY to pull over first".

Distributor clearance on Wedge motos has always been a issue. Either grind down the head for clearance or get a different distributor. Back in the day I sold a lot of Mallory dual points because the Accel distributors would fit.
