If your clock stops one thing to check is this. If the points stick like this one it burns up causing all kinds of issues.

yep .....that's the key...... clean the points of the rewind spring. then use (singer sewing machine) oil and bench run it with a 12v power supply

Here's a video showing "The Points" opening and closing that wind the clock for the first generation Charger , takes a few seconds but watch carefully, as it happens quickly. The clock movement is similar, but has slight different between a 66 and 67 model year clock. The 66 model has Electroluminescent lighting, similar to the dash gauges on face and hands. A 67 model has an incandescent lamp lit face. Easy to tell the difference, a 66 has a white wire (for the EL) and a 67 does not.

I sent my 1964 Polara clock out for upgraded quartz movement. Canadian car, so same clock as '64 Fury.
 
When i rebuilt the one in my bee I rewound the coil as i wanted to keep the tic and it works great.
The most common reason they don’t work is the coil burns out mostly because when they were parked for years and the battery runs down.
When the voltage gets low enough it will not reset and the contacts stay closed and the coil is not continuous duty rated and therefore 10 volts for that amount of time will burn it up.
