What I'd like to do is swap the lids from a couple old non-hemi AFB's to some newer Edelbrocks. All carbs would be purchased used.

Is there anyone on here who has done this already, what kind of issues did you run into?

I see there are a couple of companies out there that sell carbs like this, but the cost is too much for me to stomach.

Option 2, just rebuild a couple old non-hemi afb's that look the part. Trouble is, I don't think there were cfm ratings for them so it would be a shot in the dark for sizing.

Option 3, trim a fiberglass repop air cleaner assembly base ($125 from AAR) to fit the Edelbrock tops.

I should mention, I already have and will be using a factory '67 hemi intake with the Vanke modification. Also have an orange oval lid, single 4bbl base, and filter coming in the mail soon (hopefully). All this is for an iron 528 going in a '70 RR streetcar.

Thanks

Looks like I might not have to worry about fitting a factory air cleaner set-up. It appears the seller on FBBO may just keep my money and the parts as well... Googled his username and a bunch of warnings to not do business him came up.

Still, I'll give him another week to come through, send another pm and do a few phone calls.

I see that some other members on here have some interest in his other parts listings, I hope they get their stuff ok.

If I come up empty I guess a bad review is all I can do. Dang it

My parts showed up! A few weeks after they were supposed to show up, but they still showed up. Good thing I waited another week for the guy to come through on the deal.

Back on the hunt for carbs now. I'll try and post results, pics, and a price breakdown of this little adventure later.

Here's an update after 4 month's: First I bought a pair of '66 c-body 383/440 carbs off my local parts guy.
Next bought a edelbrock 750 off craigslist.
The 66 carbs are small 400 or 500 cfm with no secondary door. Fail! the lids don't fit the 750.
Next I nabbed a 273 hipo afb at a swap meet. It was crusty and froze up but the lid fit the edelbrock like a glove!
At the indy swap meet I found a second edelbrock 750 and an old loose afb lid. The lid wasn't even close to being right, don't know what I was thinking.
Finally, found another parts carb with a "correct" lid on ebay. Here is the price breakdown:

two useless '66 afb's $50 x 2
1 useful craigslist edelbrock 750 $100
1 swap meet parts carb, good lid $5!
1 indy swap meet edel 750 $90
1 useless afb lid, indy swap $10
1 ebay parts carb, correct lid $75
2 edel rebuild kits, jegs $80
4 cans of parts store cleaner $14

total spent on carbs: $474 + gas.
$110 of that is waste. For comparison the cheapest pair of legitimate hemi carbs I've seen were $1000 + shipping and needing rebuilt.

Geez felt like I just wrote a book, hopefully someone finds this useful...
