Clutch for tkx street/strip

About to pull trigger on a TKX...90% street.

Is a dual disk "really" worth another $1300 over a single disk? Longevity? Precision?

This will be hydraulic actuated behind a moderate aluminum headed 383...with a stroker 440 about 3 years out.

3.73 rear with 28" tires.

Also what I am gleaning from research says 10.5" diameter(american powertrain bell) and 1 1/8" 26 spline. Does this jive with what yall have done?

Keep it simple. Single disk. My 528 Hemi with the TKO600 runs a single disc.

I have had my TKX installed for about 2 years. Having seen a buddy's dashboard, windshield and roof on his 55 Chevy, plus his girlfriend's damaged leg, after his flywheel came apart at speed, I'm a true believer in scattershields. I used a QuickTime steel housing, an SFI approved CenterForce aluminum flywheel and Dual Friction clutch. I had a master/slave hydraulic clutch but opted for a hydraulic throw out bearing to simplify things and open up some real estate in a congested area. I'm 79 years old and the clutch pressure isn't enough to bother me. When you pick your flywheel and bellhousing, see what diameter clutch they will accept. I use the 130 tooth flywheel and 10.4" clutch set; along with 3.91s and M/T 29X15 tires...
I realize you said 90% street, but once you feel the acceleration of a big block Mopar it's hard to keep your foot out of the throttle. It only takes one moment to change your life forever, so heed the Boy Scout motto and "Be Prepared". Have fun!

I got most of the 6500RPM piss and vinegar out of my system over 30 years ago.
Back then I had a 69 RR 440/a833/ 4.56 that ran 10.99s all day. Heck the winnings from street racing put me through college.
This one is just a driver. :thumbsup:
 
How old are you? The dual plate units are nice and smooth, **** ton of grip and easy to hold at reign at stop lights. I'm 63 and my old legs would cry holding a heavy single disk back.
Throwing it into neutral is for pussies. :)
 
Guess I’m a pussy then. Holding a clutch in at a stoplight and spinning the throw out bearing and loading the engines thrust bearing always made about as much sense to me as constantly riding the clutch cruising down the road.

McLeod twin disc is around $800. Got one on my TKX.
