CLUTCH PEDAL OVERCENTER RETURN SPRING

They are a quite different pedal assembly

Okay, thanks. I’m not worried about it being OEM cause you will never see it. I am just wanting functionality.
I am thinking it's not about what it looks like they made them differently so they work/fit properly...

You didn't mention what style of clutch you are using.
Like Charger greg says if you're using a diaphragm clutch then the spring won't be needed.
But if your using the ol Borg & Beck style clutch then a spring is needed.
I would think a spring from an E-body should work.

I don’t know the answer. I just know the pedal has to be helped to return all the way. Thought it might me a weak spring. The car has been in the shop since I purchased it last August. The clutch was adjusted by them, but when I drove it I noticed the clutch pedal didn’t return to the fully disengaged position without a little help from the top of my toes. The clutch did fully disengage though. They are going to look at again this week. I thought if the problem was the return spring I would get ahead of the game and get one, since a member here advertised the 68 I was asking about.

Will a 68 Roadrunner spring work on a 74 Roadrunner?
Try the one you have. If it works, fine, if it doesn't return the pedal, is too short to install, or whatever, Then you will know.

I'll bet a diaphragm clutch has been installed. I have run into this before. I replaced a borg and beck style with a diaphragm style and the pedal would not return with out help. The issue was the the over-center spring was stronger than the diaphragm spring in the pressure plate and would not allow the pedal to return. If I remember correctly you can look in the clutch fork opening and see the pressure plate. If there are only 3 fingers on the pressure plate you have a borg and beck. If see a whole bunch of fingers you have a diaphragm style.
BTW removing the over-center spring is a real joy, I used a Dremal tool and cut the spring rather than remove the pedal assembly.

Push the pedal down to stretch the spring and put big washers between the coils, Release the pedal and the spring will almost fall out. As far as installing one? I don't know how you do that .

If you do have a diaphragm clutch then all you will need for a return spring is the smaller one that attaches to the clutch fork.
I have a diaphragm clutch in mine and only use this spring.

BUT---don't put it where it's shown in the photo's, that's the wrong location.
Apparently there's a small slot on the bellhousing face that the other end of the spring slips into to hold it in place.
I had mine too high and it did squat....:BangHead:

Hook it on the nose of a trolley jack between the front wheel shaft and the lift pad. Pump it up and put springs between the coils. Install spring and push pedal down and the washers fall out.
