Clutch Shudder Normal?

Flywheel needs resurfacing, it has hot spots-hard spots. Sometimes it’s burnt deep into the face (even though it looks nice) and a new wheel is needed

I'm not a fan of the newer type of disc's (they build heat). With that said, a full faced disc is either been oil contaminated or overheated. At a minimum, you're looking at resurfacing/replacing the flywheel.

If flywheel didn’t get resurfaced before he installed new clutch, good chance it will chatter on release. Also, chatter can occur if new clutch was severely overheated. Not a huge deal to fix if you can bench press an 833 !

When I was younger that was not a problem... These days I find a few cool tools are very helpful..

I ordered this one today from SST. Allowing plenty shake down time for Los Angeles trip.
If you call, ask for Tech. Wade took order. Sounds imformed.

This one. Just picked it up. In the gentle break-in period. Early indications are good. Smooth launch with little effort. Normal resistance and engages at a point I prefer, about the same. Pedal return is right on. Will continue break in. Should have taken care of this long ago.

Hi folks, I just looked at, and test drove a gorgeous 69 Sport Satellete. Well built 440, A833 4 spd, and Ram heavy duty clutch. About 600 miles on this drivetrain.
It's an absolute beast, but I notice there is some clutch shudder when engaging from standstill in 1st gear. Owner says because it's a high performance clutch, it's grabby and this is normal.
What say you? Any comments appreciated. Best regards, Hal
The pilot bearing could be worn, allowing the input shaft to flop around. Something to consider.

Thanks for your response. Isn't this chatter detrimental to other driveline components (namely u-joints, ring & pinion, etc) ?
Clutch chatter does no favors at all. I kinda suspect an oil leak dropping some oil on the clutch plate. I remember when I was a kid, I had a 57 Ford convert that I swapped in a 3 speed manual. It would start chattering every month or so. I would drive it up against a tree, put it in 3rd gear and ride the clutch for a short period to clean it up. It didn't do the clutch plate or flywheel any favors but it shut the chatter up for a while.
I'm not saying this is a smart thing to do but it did solve my problem temporarily and shortened the life of the clutch.
As was mentioned, Buyer Beware. Repairs will be needed.

clutch chatter....is not normal at all.
Start with the fundamentals - the bellhousing needs to be CHECKED with a dial indicator set up for run out and squareness. The closer to 0.0000 inches the better - do not accept mediocrity when excellence is required. If this is not correct nothing will work properly.

the pilot bushing needs to be the roller bearing assy
the flywheel surface must be ground properly

I would use a different clutch set up than most because it works but it's not what you all are used to using or recommending.

Hi Dennis, Are you happy with it? Will be looking for a setup for my Challenger. Thanks, Rich
Yes. Dramatic change. Easy driving in stop-go. Launch without having to finagle the throttle to compensate. Gentle break in now. Linear pedal. Big improvement. Tech says that the new Pilot Bearing was key. I’m ignorant of install details. Said there were visible chop marks or some such on old disc.

I destroyed the old clutch trying to walk it out of a hazardous situation in the Southern United States with inadequate fuel pressure. You could smell it frying.
