This is a bit of a dorky post so feel free to heckle me. I live in a pretty residential neighborhood and have the advantage of liking most of my neighbors. So as much as I love sound of open exhaust, I'm pretty sure that most people that are not associated with drag racing do not. I was wondering about installing a bolt-in baffle in my collectors for in-shop fire-ups and loading and unloading on the trailer. Has anyone here done it or is this stupid?

Are your header slip or bolts for the collector? Either way could just bolt or clamp on some cheapy free flowing mufflers for moving and start ups.

like these, from Summit racing... I've never tried them thou, but it may not be a bad idea if you live in a quite neighborhood & don't want to piss off the people that aren't car people... my neighbors don't mind as long as it's not early morning or late evening, my neighbor with 2 little children ,I will ask if the kids are napping before I start sometimes with open headers...

Right on, that's exactly what I was thinking. I could probably fab something so they could be held in place by a stud and a wing nut or something like that. Apparently it's not that goofy an idea.

If you go to the Summit site and look up exhaust insert there are about 7 pages worth. I like the ones that Budnicks posted on the right. They make a two disc baffle that is meant for race cars, though I would never run with it.

:iamwithstupid: I wonder if the reversion cone inserts or screens would tame the noise any ??, we used something very similar on outlaw spint cars many, many moons ago, I don't remember if the changed the volume much at all, but they supposedly helped with alcohol injected cars & cold air reversion in the headers/exhaust thou, before they made everyone go to mufflers, then we just used to old Coned style Super Traps with as many discs we could get on them....

charger side ways.jpg heres what I did, I bought 12 ft of flexible exhaust tubing that slips over my reducer, cut it in half and stuck it inside my un mounted mufflers which I layed under the car looks funny but it works like a charm. the tubing cost me 14 bucks. you can see what it looks like in this pic
