My '66 Charger Saga So Far

I've tried laquer, made it flip and look metallic.
I've tried urethane, and made it look like silver wrinkle.
I tried enamel, (which is the only clear you can put directly on aluminum), and it didn't work either.
The other problem is getting anything to stick to it. Try a patch, and see if paint passes the scratch test.
The way they get the metallic to flow, is they put more than the normal amount of surfactants in it. It changes the surface tension of the paint on application.
Interesting. Welp, we are eyeball deep in it now, no going back. I'll just be sure to take it easy on those areas.

The fake chrome paint applies nice.
As long as you are aware and keep fingers off, it has the right look.
I was just relaying my trials with trying to add durability.

It’s good info! That’s what the forums are for, helps others see and decide what is best for them. Multiple insights are always welcome

Are you sick of this thread yet? Not to worry, it will be coming to a close soon. The car is nearing completion and will be ready for sale soon. I am actually really pleased with how it looks in nearly stock trim! Hopefully this will make a lovely little cruiser for the right buyer.

The interior took quite a bit of work, but has come together nicely. Ironically it is more complete than it ever was while I was driving around in it. That is always the way with these things, at least if you give a damn. I always feel the obligation to make it nice for the next guy.

Pardon the dust all over the car, stupid car cover started perishing and now the thing is dirtier from the cover than it would have been without it! In the process of getting a replacement. The engine bay still looks lovely, especially when you look back to the first page where it started. Looking at it I remember the crazy number of hours I sunk into getting that buttoned up, not to mention the thousands of dollars I am trying to forget I spent haha.

Over all, I think I have accomplished my mission. I took a car that was at risk of never finding a home with how much work it needed, and got it far enough along to be reasonable for someone who is either ok with a driver, or looking to tinker. Side note, who knew she would drive so much better on the stock size tires! Not that I've learned my lesson, the green car is still getting the beefy ones haha.

There is a good chance that the next post on here will be the final one of the saga. To all of you who followed along with this one, I really appreciate you! If you're bored, give it a re-read now you can see it from beginning to end, and hopefully you will see the same transformation I do.
