While I was enjoying converting my 70 Roadrunner to power steering, I noticed the lock-out torque shaft was completely missing except for the rod that attaches to the column. I was able to order a complete aftermarket shaft assembly but I need the column lock rear rod. It connects the torque shaft to the trans linkage. It has the adjustable block at one end and a hole at the other end. It is the part pictured on the left. Anyone have one available?

Ok, First it is good to have all the parts. Mock up your power steering pump brackets and pulley alignment before you begin. If a Hemi, you need a double alternator pulley. That needs to be disassembled to press on. Engine must be jacked way up to clear if a Hemi. Also, you need a shorter steering column shaft and coupler. Auto zone or advance has the doorman steering coupler rebuild kit it fits the old Mopars but states like 74 and up or something like that for $10 verses $40 + shipping or so from aftermarket guys. I made this tool to remove the steering column bearing housing otherwise if it is tight you can damage it. See pix.

It is a copy of the Miller C-4044. I just welder two flat washers to a piece of pipe and welded a 7/16" nut and inserted a bolt. The bottom washer is first drilled using the removed bearing retainer as a template. I used the retainer screws to attach to the housing.

If you have a 383 or 440 it may be a much easier task. Also it is much easier to connect the return housing and pressure hose on the steering gear while the engine is jacked up. Also, use 11/32" return hose it fits better and that is what the factory used. I had pulley issues; see my other post. I needed spacers for the crank pulley because of an aftermarket thick damper with a larger recess than stock. I will post more finished pix after the column is in.

I guess none around; so I will make one. Received the torque shaft assembly today before painting I mocked it up and it actually fits great. The rod I need is less than a foot long. The ones I found available were $100 plus the ride. I have some old Chevy rods laying around so I will start with them.
