Commercial washing machine

Redneck solution.
Hot is clean....skip the washer.
Crank the dryer up.
The ol' snap & go.

I have done most of the laundry in our family for the last 15 years or so. My wife was putting in too much powder and conditioner, and it messed up the machine faster. When I complained about that , it was a real "Do it yourself" moment.

I don't mind it....it means I get to do stuff how I want it done. Being a Virgo, apparently perfection is a key attribute. No complaints from family about the quality of the clothes now...always clean, and I do about 8 loads a week - between towels, darks, whites.....and dirty work clothes get done separately also.

Besides, it's me who has to strip the machine down every few years to de-scuzz it. I switched to liquid detergent about 8 years ago and never used the powder since. Most of it doesn't dissolve completely, and that builds up over time. Fabric conditioner is the worst as it builds up a film over time and creates a slimy coating known as "Scrud" - which needs to be cleaned regularly to prevent mould build-up.

Running a HOT wash every week helps but doesn't fix the build-up like the manufacturers say it does.
My first wife did that and still does use way too much washing detergent. 2nd X was better at listening to me about that. 10 years of being single before getting married the first time taught me a little bit at least
I'm not gonna jinx my awesome Maytag :icon_fU:
My first Maytag lasted a pretty good while and this 2nd one is getting old too but it has a problem when the washroom gets cool in the winter time.....the fill valves pulsate until they warm up. Works fine when the wash room temp is above 70. No complaints on the Whirlpool dryer. Don't remember how old it is but it looked fairly new when I spotted it on the side of the road. Was going to scrap it but after looking at it more closely, it appeared to be in really good shape but it wouldn't come on. Found the plastic door switch was broken. Someone was probably letting the door slam shut and broke the plastic lever. Cost me 7 bucks and a little bit of time and threw on a new belt while it was opened up.

KISS principle. Speed Queen top loader only for me. We replaced our old Maytag with a new Maytag and the stupid thing made all kinds of noises, trying to save a thimble of water and took forever, 3-4 hours, to do a load of laundry. When we moved back down south, we left the Maytag and bought a new Speed Queen top loader and dryer. Simple timer, stainless tub, depending on fill, a load is done in 20-30 minutes.

plus you have to constantly clean that damn rubber gasket. it gets slimy underneath the lip.....

They make a fan to attach to the back of the washer so after you're done using it you leave the door open a bit and the air movement will dry the seal. My neighbor had one that needed a drum bearing and that seal was disgusting. She used a lot of fabric softener and that makes it worse. It contains a lot of animal fat. Yuck!

I wholeheartedly believe in the KISS. I want a simple well built front loader no electronic gizmos. Top loaders have a seal on the bottom that can leak as well so thats a wash( pun intended). I can wipe the door seal every now and again not a big deal. Seems most like the top loaders but I don’t think my clothes are as clean and I don’t care to bend down in them and scrape my clothes off the sides. Front loader on a pedestal, clothes fall off the drum I reach in 1 arm load grab them and to the dryer we go! The wife thinks speedqueen is the expensive. If it’s the last washer I buy and I never have to open it up and work on it, money well spent in my book.

Stay away from front loaders, they leak.
I feel like there is potential for a dirty joke there
Top loaders can be loaded faster too.....open the lid on the dirty clothes hamper and dump it in
One thing I'm always careful with when loading my 1982 model machine which is a top loader, is to carefully put the laundry in and to never stuff it in. My ex would overload and shove stuff in there.

Before my current old machine we had a front loader all in one, so it would wash and then dry, to me thats the best solution but I could understand it being a maintenance nightmare.
