Hi there

Can anyone help with sizing some fasteners we need for our 69 Sport Satellite's centre (UK spelling :icon_wink: ) console?

We need the nuts that hold the hinge to the lid (size & type?):

and whatever holds this part in the console's shifter opening (size & type):

we presume they're 'pal nuts', like these others on the console:

but dont know what size?

Also.... in that 1st pic, it shows there's a kind of sheet metal acorn nut missing (top right of the pic, near the hinge) - anyone know what type & size that is?

I imagine all these fasteners are available from the usual suppliers, but I need to know what to ask for!

Grateful for any advice :icon_thumleft:

UK,

In the top pic of yours, my console has 7/16" acorn nuts all the way across, as well as the two off to the side. As far as the shifter opening, mine has the "pal nuts" and they're 3/8"

Hope this helps-

Propwash has it right...I bought them from my local hardware store...You probably can do the same...Acorn nutz

A very belated thanks for the above replies, but now we're actually getting round to fitting the console, I've realised I need to ask a bit more info on the acorn nuts :icon_redface:

The 7/16" & 3/8" mentioned above is the across-flats size of the acorn & pal nuts respectively, and I've figured out that the pals nuts are to go on a 3/16" stud, but I need to check if anyone knows what size stud the acorn nut goes on?

The 4x studs on the back of the woodgrain look to be about 0.138" or 9/64 (3.5mm?) and the studs for the hinge are approx 0.175 or 11/64 (4.5mm?), but according to Mr Propwash above, the same acorn nuts fit on all these studs? Is that right?

Grateful for any further help :icon_salut:

Sorry for any confusion and let me explain a little deeper Maxie..........I said the acorn nuts for the hinge were 7/16" (head size) as well as the two other threaded studs off the side. A 3/16" stud makes sense as you observed

The 4 Pal nuts on the bottom side of the shifter plate would have a head face of 3/8". Pal Nuts are not as specific as regular nuts being they flex, have no threads but just a twisted catching surface. You would have a hard time finding a precise measurement size like 9/64".......Looking at the proximity size of both the acorn and pal nuts head face size, I would imagine a snug fitting pal nut of 1/8" I.D. would be the one you are looking for.

Around here I can easily find acorn and pal nuts in metric or standard at the local hardware store, like 1badgtx mentioned. Might want to check there, otherwise I have a bunch of pal nuts I bought in bulk. I could zip a few in an envelope and shoot across the pond for you.

Best of luck to you

Thanks again PW, I'll see if i can get hold of them over here first before troubling you for some of your stock!

Think I'll try 1/8" pal nuts instead of acorn nuts as you suggested (on the inside of the console lid and along the hinge), as I can get 1/8 & 3/16 thread cutting pal nuts here quite easily, whereas thread-cutting acorn nuts seem to be a bit more odd-ball :icon_scratch:
