I put this in the racers section, figuring you guys have probably killed your fair share of converters. My 383 is nothing exciting by any means but it pulls strong for what it is.
Here's the problem> the car will spin the tires from a standing start with very little effort and pulls strong through 1st gear.....as soon as it hits 2nd it just wont pull,3rd gear is no better, but not in the sense of a fuel or tuning problem.
It's more like a plateau situation, you can excelerate but it's not like it used to be. To my way of thinking, the one way clutch has taken a dive (probably seized) in effect causing a hitting a brick wall situation as such.
Opinions and thoughts appreciated guys.

The RPM stays up KD and the trans shifts fine, it just doesn't pull like it used to.

Sorry about the delay.

What converter are you running. You could have a converter issues or the high gear clutches are smoked.
Whe was the last time someone went through the transmission? How does the fluid smell?
It sure sounds like it's in the trans.

Thanks KD, the tran was gone through sometime before I purchased the car (I know the previous owner),that's when it also got the new converter....it's pretty much a rebuilt stock unit, it'll flash to just over 2000rpm.
As for the fluid,it looks and smells like new. The engine's currently out of of the car so now's the time to sus things out., the shop that did the converter is local, so I figure as a first port of call i'll drop the converter in to them and get it checked out. If nothing comes of that,at least it will eliminate it from the equasion.

Pull the pan check for shinny debris.Clean the lines and change fluid. If the converter is failing it will fill the trans full of debris and trash soft parts and exspensive bands.Save yourself the headache of further problems.

That was also on the cards moparpoor, I have to make new cooler lines anyway (old ones were rough) and I was going to drop the pan and have a sus....i'm hoping there's nothing too ugly in the unveiling....i'll know in the next week or so.

I read through the Torqueflite rebuild book for some insight,it vaguely mentioned the problem i'm having with no real details....saying>converter malfunction, replace converter. This isn't to say it's the be all and end all of the problem.
