Running comp xe268 cam 9.5 to1 compression. 3.91 rear gear. Had a new dacco 764 come apart on my fresh tranny so want a better one this time. I want on that is streetable but will still get out of its own way.

Give PTC a call, they'll make one just for what you need.

The 764 failure is an isolated incident, try another one.

The Dacco 764 is not a new converter, but rather a rebuilt one.
Contact any of the reputable performance converter builders and they'll get you what is required for your setup. Don't let price however be your only guide. Working in the converter industry and having seen many converters apart, you only get what you pay for. And above all else, avoid used converters as you don't know what you're getting. Used converters are only good as a core, or a door stop. JMHO

PTC builds a great conveter for about $500.

And what do the "performance converter builders" start with?

Same cam in My 440 lucked out and found a Hughes on the return shelf at Summit. It is their Mileage series but has a 2200 stall behind the torquey 440. 323 gears and gets the 68 going out of the hole pretty good. Just got their 2500 for my BB Duster build. Both are street only. The 68 got 16 MPG @ 75 on the way to Reno, cant complain. Had their 700r4 trans and converter in a 85 chevy 4x4 and beat the snot out of it on the sand dunes and wheeling. Hughes is all I will buy.
