I have been scouring the web for pictures and companys that build funtional 4 or 6 point roll bars for 66-70 B Body rag tops. Autoweld makes some nice bars for the early Mustangs, but when I inquired about one for my Coronet... they said we dont do anything for a mopar ragtop.... What a shame... I am sure there is a market out there. Anyway... If some one has any pics or knows a company that builds em..... please let me let me know..

The key phrase above is..."WHAT A SHAME".... The reason no one offers a roll bar for a B-body convertible is "Why would someone do that".....? If you want a race car i'm sure someone out there would love to swap a post car or hardtop for that beautiful convertible. Take the convertible to the beach.... not the track. Kinda like taking miss America to the "Dog-N-Suds"
JMHO.....

To each his own.... But I would rather be safe than dead.... You take a 500 Hp highly modified pro touring beast out on the road and drive it like it's meant to be driven, you have virtually nothing to protech you and yours from certain death. I have decided to build my own 6 point bar. It will look like it belongs in the car. I struggled at first, to decide... a roll bar is a no brainer.... If it was a bone stock cruiser ya... I wouldn't even consider one.

I'd say, it's your car and if you want roll bars...go for it! They can always come back out if you don't like or sell.

Good luck on your hunt..Interested to hear what you find.

Im pretty much certain you guys really want one complete and ready to go but id feel worse if i was wrong and didn't put this link in and there is nothing to loose. They are B-Body roll kits BUT not convertible specific. so for what its worth, Good luck..

Think about it....

You take a 500 Hp highly modified pro touring beast out on the road and drive it like it's meant to be driven.

I'll always encourage a guy to build his car the way he wants it.... But if you stop and think from a engineering and structual point of view..... A big, heavy unibody convertible just won't hold up under the high torque and torsional stresses that it will be subjected to with a "highly" modified, high horse power engine and a pro-touring set-up. After a few months of "Driving it like it's meant to be driven" you'll find your self having to shove the doors to open them.... (or perhaps they won't close anymore). Glass loseing alignment and water and wind leaks.... The sort of things that happen with a sprung body. Hard to fix that. Ever wonder why you don't see professional convertible racing....? Other then little light weight sport cars with no real torque issues.... Aside from the structual issue... convertibles are heavier and have a higher center of gravity....
The added rigidity of a closed car will make a much better choice... especially if your concerned about putting it on it's lid.Just something to think about...
Good luck with your project.... It will be fun no matter how you build it

"I'll always encourage a guy to build his car the way he wants it...." I agree, Your ride-Your way.

Your absolutley correct on the structural integrity of the unibody when adding more power and pushing the car past it,s origional engineered limits. I will not have any issues with that... I have re engineered the entire chassis to easily handle 500 hp and torque. The car has been given a lower center of gravity, fully connected sub frames, reinforced inner and outer front clip, all side to side body seems fully welded and reinforced, reinforced and re engineered k member, fully reinforced steering box mount, modified and reinforced LCA, strut rods, giant tie rod ends, solid sleeves, geometry corrected UCA, monster drop spindles with 13" Willwoods ,Custom Billstiens, Hotchkiss rear springs, reinforced front spring hangers, billet rear shackles, hotchkiss front and rear swaybars with modified mounts, panhard bar, and last but not least... the fully custom 6 point roll bar installed with ID locking tube clamps for easy removal of all or part of the cage. 500 hp at 5800 480 torq at 4000, Tremec .62 overdrive 5 speed, quicktime scattershield, 410 Trutrac S 60. The car will experience no issues with panel shift or any other torsional issues. I dont plan on professionaly racing it.... I just want it to perform and handle. Formost... keep me and mine safe. Pics are some of the front reinforcments.

Hope to have paint on it by mid June, driving by July.

NICE PACKAGE.....! I like the way you went about it, top notch equipment. It should be a joy to drive. What rear end are you using.... 9"...? Somewhere around a 3:50/3:70 gear....?
Keep the pictures coming as things progress.... Love it...

Coronet 500 road beast

I decided on a Strange 60 410 geared Trutrac... bullit proof, corner friendly and of course, mopar style.... I will post pics as it transforms....

convertibles already have the hemi torq boxes , putting in frame connectors shoud stiffen it up fine , a roll bar would be cool looking i think but i would have to see how it mounted , looked and functions before ever considering it .

Very well thought out car. I would think about oval or streamlined tube for the exposed parts above the door line. Possibly two small diameter pieces joined with a filler pieces. It's obvious you have the skills, I just think exposed round tube on a beautiful car like yours would look too much like plumbing.

Should come off the corners like a rocket with that 4:10.....
