So after 10 years of dealing with leaks, shift cable issues and many other annoying isseas I am going to convert my car to a 66 and later 727. My car is a 64 Polara 500 with a 383. I am keeping the car forever, so I dont care about the price. Everything gets done once and gets done right.

I am planning on picking up a TCI street fighter 727. I saw that Imperial services has a kit to use my stock console with the new tranny as well. I was just wondering what else would be involved? Change the crossmember? Any other major mods? I am aware I will have to put a new driveshaft.

Any input from people with experience would be great.

I'm using Imperial Services cable kit in my 65 Satellite (console shift, original shifter) with a 727 out of a 71 Charger; it works beautifully. Also using Imperial Services polyurethane trans mount. No other changes required (cross member, etc.) other than driveshaft.

Great to hear that. I already put in the poly mount. I was a little afraid that there would be more involoved, but it wounds pretty straight forward. How difficult was it to set up the cable kit for the console?

..Changed out my push button 64 tranny for a TCI Super Street Fighter tranny....used Schumacher tranny conversion mount and a Lokar speedo cable...all worked very well..

I have a newer 727 in my 63 Sport Fury. Everyone is right as all I did was use the Imperial Service mount and had a shorter driveshaft made. I also installed an aftermarket floor shifter but of course I left the cool push buttons in. Ron

All great info. Thanks guys. Still a little confused on the mount. I currently have a poly mount in my car from Imperial for my stock tranny. Fit great. I looked on Schumachers site and they have a mount for conversion, but it looks to be the same as my original. Maybe just a little tailer. Any real difference between the two?

Also, I am pretty sure I will need a new converter. any recommendations? Its a stock 383 with a edelbrock carb and electric ignition.

....Mounting holes on tailstock of later 727 are not in the same location as 64 push button trans...schumacher mount accounts for the difference and fits perfect..

HEMI-ITIS I think we met at Mopars at E Town a couple years back. I had the white 64 Polara 500. We were speaking back then about trannys. The car has been in storage a couple years and its time to put a new trans in. Do you have or know of any available on the island? I am located in Yonkers, NY

Any reason you do not get your original transmission rebuilt and updated.
By updated I mean a shift kit and newer input shaft and related parts.
That way you can use the newer torque converters and still have the original transmision.
Just an other way to go.
That is what I did.

My case is cracked. Constant leak. Also, I have done everything possible, and the park lock cable always gives me trouble. Either it doesnt engage, or gets stuck. I have dumped a ton of money in this tranny and after working with the later ones I just want to start fresh.

Rather then look for a new case, put my guts in it, change the tail and input shaft, I could just spend $1100 and my a brand new TCI and have no headaches.

Appreciate all the input guys!
