I have just purchased this car. The fender tag indicates that from the factory it was a 426 wedge with a 4 speed.
How can it be determined whether it was just a wedge or a max wedge engine. It is a bit confusing so a little info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

In 1965 they only had the street wedge which was a 365 h.p. engine.
1964 was the transition year from Max Wedge to Hemi. In 65 the only Hemi available was the Race Hemi

It's the numbers under the A and B on the tag, right? ...for engine and trans.

Is there a good reference for that (pre-66) on line?

65 engine code

That is correct. The (AB over 80) code desiginates a 426 4BBL...(365HP) engine.
