I’ve seen red and black slotted. Long and short. Which are the period correct ones? I’m looking to replace the non period correct tips on my car. Where is the best place online to buy?

I guess depending on if you have resonators. These would be your options. Call them to clarify.

Pypes makes some that are available on ebay.

I have some older ones (2004-ish) and they are decent quality, especially for the price.

I don't think there is a difference.

They had both styles last time I checked.

Resonator or not.

Also different pipe sizes.

Plymouth cars used the shorter version of the tips compared to the Dodges. The inner pipe color also changed after 72 from the orange to black.

Is the 13” measurement in the picture the long version?

My pictures suck. The long version is actually 14" total length and the short versions are 11 1/4" long.

You can't go by what these sites list the parts for. They are just trying to sell as many units as possible and don't necessarily care if they are period or model correct. User carterafb stated the length and color correctly for a 74 RR.

So not much difference in lengths.

I’m finding that out searching.

Thanks. Black short. Which is almost impossible to find. I’ll have to do black long which is few and far between but I found them. If anyone gets down under the car to measure them for accuracy I’ll kick em in the nards.

I am thinking that 1973 cars with a early production dates may have come through with left over orange insert tips

The original factory tips on my 73 (April) were long with red inserts. I replaced them with the long red SS Pypes because the chrome was pitted and flaking. You really can't go with what a lot of the restoration stores say is correct for your car, Year One says my horn should be black, but it's original and purple.

The short tips were only used on 1971-72 road runners. The long tips were used on 1971-74 Chargers and 1973-74 road runners. All these tips had orange inserts. I've never seen black inserts on an original car.

My 1973 had the long tips with the orange/red inserts and they were the only tips that fit correctly into the holding clips on the frame.
