Have a 70 RR. Has the Roadrunner Decal with the "short" and the "long" dust trail on both sides. Understand the "long" dust trail was an option. Like the way the 70's look without the "long" dust trail so going to remove the "long" dust trail.
Is the Roadrunner with the "short" dust trail the correct "standard" decal?
If not could someone post a photo of the correct "standard" fender decal?

thanks

Yes, you could get the regular bird without the long dust trail. That's how mine came. Same decal used from '69 to '75.

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread, but how did you remove the dust trail decal? Did you have any shadowing issues on the paint after you removed it?

There is a chance that the adhesive residue has altered the colour of the paint underneath - when compared with the rest of the paint. Also, there may be a difference in the 'depth' of the paint if the car has been machine buffed - ie/ the clear coat will be cut down compared to the original paint underneath the decal.
If it were my car, I would test a small piece of the decal inside the door frame area - to see if will come off easily, or require a heat gun or at worst a liquid to soften the adhesive.

Thanks for the replies. I had never seen that eraser wheel. Scary but interesting.

I'm referring to my own Road Runner. The car was painted within the past year or so, but the restorer put the front fender cartoon Road Runner decals too high on the fender. I wanted to reposition them, and add the dust trail striping as well.

My concern is that the bird decal will leave a shadowing, which I could try to 'paint correct' with a buffer. I've included a pic of the misplacement here.

Since your paint is only a year or two old, and the sticker/decal is 3M product, maybe drop into a local sign shop and ask their opinion - after all, they should be the experts.
They may even offer to do it for a box of beer, or less if they are car guys.

I was just in an auto paint supplier last week (Sherwin-Williams) and hey, there was one of those paint eraser wheels on the rack!

But Anasazi23, why not give it a try on one side. If the worst happens and there's a noticeable outline where the decal was, you can still put a new one back in the same place and you won't be any worse off.

I also see decal remover solution on amazon. I figure I could spray an inconspicuous area and see if there's any paint damage, and if not, try it on the decal. I've also seen some recommend a heat gun to soften it up to be able to pull it off. I'll update you when I get it done in the next couple weeks.

Thanks again for the replies.
