I got my restored instruments installed and still have a little chatter in the speedometer which I attribute to the speedometer cable. I tried to lubricate it with graphite before putting the cluster back in but I had a difficult time getting the cable back in which was probably due to a rough area in the sheathing. I rebuilt the transmission last year and put a lot of care into smoothing out the drive gear teeth and positioning it correctly so pretty sure it's not at fault.

So anyway, does anyone know where a correct length 66-67 B-body speedometer cable can be found? I ordered one years ago to try and replace it, and it was so long I would have had to put loops in it under the car. I think it must have been for a Sherman tank. It probably came from one of the usual places like Year One or Classic - can't remember for sure.

Also, does anyone know the correct length? I should have measured the cable when I had it out last week.

Thanks

Does 63 inches sound correct for the right length?

Rough area in sheathing isn’t going to get better with a new cable, just saying. Might have to replace everything.

Thanks - I went ahead and ordered a 61 inch one from Classic that they said was correct. I'll match it to the original to see.

I apparently have worse problems however - according to Instrument Specialties I probably didn't have the cable shoved all the way into the transmission gear when I attached it to the speedometer and they think the cable end pressed in on the jeweled movement and destroyed the new speedo head they installed. So 3 months, painful removal of dash in a factory AC car and many dollars down the drain.
