I have never had a cracked head or block on a 383-440 , unless it froze once. Then, it can happen .

That sucks, Steve. I'm guessing he just did a visual for cracks, do you have the bill? If he magnafluxed it, it would be itemized.
I have a good set of 915's if you're interested. They're in nice shape, have the original valves, and will accept your springs / locks / retainers.
