Craigslist list AD, with an engine lesson

I didn't read the whole thing but I already know about the thin wall casting crap never happened.....

That guy is really trying to sell that RV motor isn't he, "old wives tale" , the core shift will tell you usually whether a block is a good candidate for a large over bore, or just sonic test all of them period...

I had my 68 block sonic checked as part of the balancing and stuff, but broken out it was $65 and he magnafluxed checked it as well for the same price.

Thats the main problem with the later blocks and not just with cylinder bores but lifter bores aswell. My 76 block sonic tested good was told it would handle 60 over no problem. I just went 20 beings how thats all that was needed to achive a perfectly round cylinder.

I was told recently that boring 60 over, you could be more prone to overheating.

All blocks can be a candidate for core shift and the more blocks cast from the same core mold, the higher the chance of it happening. And boring to clean up is the way to do it. Some think boring for cubes is the think to do.....

Depends on how thick the cylinder walls are and if there is any core shift. I've seen bores that were taken out even more that ran cool. A .070 over 383 for example....

Yeah, a 440 is a 440 is a 440. It doesn't matter what year it is they all need to be sonic and maged.
Sure you will get a few extra cubes with boring but as most of us know if you want more cubes just stroke it. I strokes my old Bee engine with a 440 source kit and we bored it as well just to clean it up. I don't even remember what it was bored to, maybe .030 or .040. I didn't do it for cubes but rather for good round cylinders. It came out to 523 C.I.D.

Ive read and heard more debates and arguments over this thin wall stuff then the different shades of any given color of paint. I just cant agree with the thin wall stuff, When i have my 400 built it will be checked before hand to make sure its ok, The amount of money we have to put in any engine we do or have done in my case is enough to warrant a check on the block,, what ever year block. MY opinion.
