Hey all,

So being the crazed car nut I am, I've always got a few off the wall ideas up my sleeve. Lately I've been thinking of trying to recreate one of the cars from the movie "Mad Max". Not the black Pursuit Special that everyone knows, I'm talking about the Main Force Patrol cars with the awesome paint scheme. So here's the question: what Mopar should I be looking at to turn into an MFP prowler?

The car I buy has to be relatively cheap, as in not rare and prized. It would be great if it looked relatively similar to the Ford Falcon XB in the original movie. No, I can't buy a Falcon XB in the States. Any pics of ideas anyone has would be appreciated. I'm doing this just to have a bonkers car to tool around in- not planning on perfection, or authenticity, or great performance. An MFP beater, if you will.

Man, I'm getting pretty imaginitive about procrastinating at work... :homework:

Thanks for the help in realizing a random dream!

Ooo, very cool idea. I wish I had the room and the time to mess around and do stuff like this. My three bids are Valiant, Fury, and the AMC hornet looks pretty close (not really MoPar in '70, but...).

There isn't really anything close to the lines on those Fords, but i guess if you got everything painted up and had a body kit and roof spoiler and whirly lights on there, you might be able to fool some people.

I think you'd have a more authentic platform with a circa 1976 Maverick.
Simply add a Grabber hood and you're almost 1/2 way there.

I've thought about doing this since I saw the movie back in the 80s.

Thanks for the pics, '67! The AMC looks the closest out of those three to me. The 71-74 Coronet could work too...

Ford Maverick, eh? It ain't a Mopar, but then again I could do whatever the hell I wanted to it and no one on FFBO would give me a hard time!

I would say "Do the 4dr Maveric for sure", just do a custom grill for a more similar look, I wouldn't spend to much money on it though... The AMC 4dr Hornet would be the next closest in looks of the cars shown maybe... Man you must work for the city, state or feds to have this much time procrastinating, to post stuff here while at work...LOL... Just kidding guys, I don't want to turn this into a stupid political thread, "it's just a stupid joke"

It ain't a 4 door, and I don't know if I could find one that cheap, but the Ford Torino might work...

The Maverick is looking more and more like the one. The 2 door is so much cooler looking though. This car painted MFP colors... I would flip my lid driving it! :headbang:

if you want a 4 door....how about a 71-72-73-74 satellite ? itll be a mopar at least yes...no ???

I think the Maverick would be a good one to fit what you want, But, I think if you wanted to go Mopar and resemble the one you want that a 73 Duster 4 door would come close to, even a Dart..

these cars are all over the place for cheap (at least where i live lol) :headbang: 6 cylinder cars galore

Here's your grille...and maybe a your car 66 falcon.
I think the ones in the movie were Aus falcons. The black one for sure, but a 7x model.

I'm sure you've seen this site-

Thanks for the ideas, guys! Keep 'em coming!

The real thing would be great... but imagine how hard/costly it would be to get parts. Not to mention finding someone to work on it. I'm clueless enough when it comes to the workings of American cars... and don't have the time to pour into a Aussie car that no one has ever seen.

So far the Maverick/Comet is at the top of the list. I could find one (especially a 4dr) for cheap, finding parts/getting it worked on wouldn't be super hard or expensive. No, it doesn't look exactly like a Ford Falcon XB, but it's within the margin of similar to me.

I'm starting to dig the look of the 4dr after looking at enough of them. I'm such a nut- I could probably start liking the look of a Yugo if I stared at one long enough. :sign12:

Jeese, those red and blue beacons are like 5 gallon buckets, bye bye aerodynamics! Looks like the Maverick would be perfect. It's a Ford, yea. But for "tooling" around, Fords aren't all that bad. I've owned WAY more Fords than MoPars :sad10:

Speaking of Ma Max

Compare & contrast...

Speaking of Mad Max, Funny thing I just watched Road Warrier last night on Encore or something, no yellow pursuit cars in that one...

I'm just painting the car MFP style. No lettering, no siren, no cop lights on top. Well, maybe "INTERCEPTOR" or "PURSUIT" on the back... and definitely the spoiler above the rear glass, but that's it.

If I go through with this, my wife will have me committed to a mental institution. :icon_joker:
