Is it crazy to run a mechanical fuel pressure gauge? They're so much cheaper than electrical sending unit type but the trade off of course is having a pressurized capillary full of fuel in the passenger cabin. Any thoughts?

you are not allowed to run a mechanical fuel pressure gauge in the cabin unless you run one of those isolaters in the engine bay.
i personally run all my mechanical gauges out on the cowl.never had 1 problem.

I never run electric guages. Always mechanical. Never ran a fuel guage in the car though. Either under the hood, or mounted on the cowl. But have had plenty of oil guages in the car. Never had a mess either.

heres my electric fuel pressure gauge in my 65 dodge coronet 500

Yeah, makes sense that it's illegal. I know some guys run em but seems crazy to me. I was having fuel starvation issues just hammering on it on the back roads for prob 10 sec bursts and it turns out i had a bone stock Airtex fuel pump. i upgraded to a carter mech pump and just want to keep an eye on it, prob not necessary so i'll spend my $200 elsewhere.

Thanks.

I converted to electric gauges years ago and have yet to have a single failure. It saves weight too!

gauges

I made a all electric Autometer custom made gauge panel {except mech. 160mph Speedo} for my 68 RR, no fuel pressure gauge as of yet, I do have a mechanical one on the regulator thou & I will run a seperate electronic fuel pressure gauge in the car sometime in the future... but I run an Aeromotive S/S electric 250gpm 12 psi pump & bypass style regulator, with a return line, back to the fuel tank, they are almost bullet proof for reliability now, I've done it that way for years, wired thru relays, have 2 filters, 1 before the pump & 1 before the carbs, I've had no issues at all...
