I'm at a final crossroads. Return the 63 Savoy to the streets or sell and buy another Mopar for non-race use. I'm in the process of putting a new street friendly crossram engine in with a street friendly pushbutton trans in. I haven't started yet. I'm 68 years old and there are no tracks around her to race at any longer (I'm in Okeechobee FL). The car is race ready now for NSS or bracket but no venues to run at. The car has a long time pedigree and I'm torn about gutting it for street use forever. It would have a long race continuation in another state that had good race tracks like Ohio as an example. If I sold it and bought another car like a 66-70 charger, I could use the car locally for cruises and just driving around when it suits me that might be a better solution for me. I've had a few bad falls lately and believe me, that has not made it any easier.

Thoughts?

Boy, that's up to you. That might be quite a project returning it to comfortable street duty. Are you up for it? Or, sell it and take your time finding a nice driver to enjoy for the rest of your car hobby career. Is that Charger the car you have always wanted? There's your answer.

Make a cool street/strip car
if you have the funds, buy something else & do the occasional deal with that car
keep the history going, still be fun if you have the extra cash & the extra room
for another car, more cruise & street friendly

tough decision I know, but it's one you need to justify for yourself

I've scaled back myself
it's hard to get motivated, when a bunch of stuff around you changes
or like you we lost most of our tracks too,
the hobby isn't getting cheaper either, on retirement income
lots of stuff on my plate, great health still "knock on wood at 65"
but, me taking care of my 88 y/o dad, is a lot to deal with right now...

Snook, you had a fun 68 years playing/dragging with cars. For me I would go with the cruiser and smell the roses. Thats me and Ive enjoyed watching you post and work on it. Im turning 60 this year and hoping to finish my charger in the next 2 years. When we were younger we would rip the SB out and build them. I am keeping the charger original 318 auto on column and going to enjoy cruising it. Thats just me. Good luck

My opinion is worth exactly what it costs you Mr Snook, but my answer would depend on how much space, funds and interest you have. That car has a long history, so on one hand, it should probably live its life out as a race car. It would take quite a bit to put it back to really 'street' car; lots of time effort and money wasted. So maybe keep it for the occasional urge to race and buy another car for cruising around in...?
IF you have a real sentimental/emotional attachment to THAT car, then the answer is clear - keep it and put it back where you will use it / enjoy it the most.
Otherwise, if you're only gonna have one 'toy car' and you want it no fuss streetable, I'd say sell it and buy another 63 to cruise around in. :)

You know how much work, time and money it will take better than anyone and if you're up to it. For myself I always expect disappointments and surprises in a new to me car and that can stop those ideas in a hurry. Not an easy decision.

This is my opinion as well.

Good luck whatever you decide!

Thanks for the input guys. I've decided to keep MAXIMVS and do a few mods, keep in mind that the car is NOT an original max wedge car:
- Do a new engine with lower compression, about 10:1, 440 source 500 CID stroker kit on a 440 RB base. The old high compression engine will be sold complete without the X-Ram and ISKY EZ roller lifters.
- Stealth heads max wedge ported CNC to keep efficiency with the original X-Ram port size
- keeping the x-ram with 625cfm afb's
- using the ISKY solid roller and EZ roller lifters with comp/T&D roller rockers
- using the spare 1965 slip yoke 727 push button trans with a shift kit and billet front drum, regular forward auto VB. I'll re-use the 9" converter, I like it! The maxed out race trans will be sold.
- will be using 1985 El Camino swivel buckets replacing the 60/40 bench seat.

Once I have the garage ceiling mods done, I'll have room to park another car under the lift. Then I may consider adding another car to fit under the Backyard Buddy lift.

Your history with this car tells me its your keeper. I like your decision to keep it and make it a little more street friendly and comfortable.
