Crusin The Coast 2019

Pic brother in law sent me.

I stopped there in 2017 when they had about 5 or 6 really nice Mopars in the yard. Hellcat Challengers, and old school muscle cars. One 1970 Roadrunner in InViolet with a EFI 6.1 Gen 3 HEMI. Very clean job.
From what I heard from someone this year (I haven't been back there to stop and visit) they have a lot more.

I took some venue grand scale pix before the crowds really got thick. Hard to capture the vastness of the depth (distance) down the streets the cars and people go.

Mine so far,
BUT
I shift better, keep my gas pedal on the floor while shifting when I'm playing for keeps, and the 3 Rochester 2bbl carbs on the GTO need heavy modifications to match the performance upgrades to the 421. All American Carburetors did a great restoration job a year ago, no more of the all too common fuel leaks from numerous places on the carbs, BUT they rebuilt them to stock specs. I am sending them to Dick Boneske who has reworked those Rochesters, including a variety of modifications, to accommodate stroker street/strip Pontiac engines. THAT is their "last chance" and I expect good results!
IF "the Boss" still has complaints about them that are actually carb issues and not "user error", well then it's time for some kind of 3x2 EFI. I would like to see the FiTech 3x2 EFI/TBI system on it, because for her engine it's the best value. I'm afraid that she is going to want a Rochester look alike system that also performs well, really does look like three Rochester 2bbl carbs, but COSTS $8,000 once everything is put together (fuel lines, pump, control system, mechanical parts, intake, everything)
So that's a VERY LONG answer to "Whose car is faster?" The short answer is that they are very close, and I may be falling behind, BUT I am still undefeated

The family who owns that house, which is a "vacation home" apparently has significant bank, and a number of those cars are theirs.
It's been 3 CtC events ago since I spoke with them, so I'm not sure about details.

One last note on Cruisin the Coast 2019.
Saturday we got a great spot in Bay St. Louis, on the main drag where the cars drive by, and the most foot traffic is. Lots of compliments, comments, and a few questions. It was great!
BUT
I had to get in one more drive down Beach Blvd, knowing the 3,000 pound pressure plate was going to take a toll on my knee. So many people lined up, in chairs along the route, especially around intersection traffic lights and hotels and other gathering venues.
I use my "beep-beep" horn to make the crowd happy a lot more than spinning the tires, but there were a few appropriate times for that too. Of course I make that ride with my Doug's cutouts open, and cracking on the 440 6bbl 292°/.509 cam with open headers to spin the tires is quite the noisemaker! I remember one guy in particular was adamant about me spinning them up, complaining about the "Ford and Chevy guys" and how great Mopar and Roadrunners are, so naturally I obliged.
That "parade" is one of my favorite things to do at CtC.
I also passed by a 70ish Corvette who wanted to have a go. Nice guy with his wife, so we had a very brief open throttle run. We wound up at a red light later on, and he had a motorcycle in front of him so I waited at the green light. By the time 2nd gear was winding out there was no doubt about my Roadrunner having the upper hand. I don't like to go any faster than that on the street anyway. At the next light I joked about "the motorcycle being in his way" and he laughed, but there was no doubt about the victor, and he said my car sounded great.

Yeah. The most prominent feeling I have today is best compared to coming down off a high or having a hangover, but it's strictly from knowing my vacation is over, and I have some work piled up. Fortunately I like my job, it's not like I have 51 more weeks stuck in a cubicle from 8-5 M-F. It's a lot of responsibility though, and I actually had the thought about how awesome retirement could be, especially if I could plan multiple car related road trips. Man-that sounds really good right about now.

Couldn't make it to the "Marina" this year but here's dad and I "Cruisin the Coast". Both are the best events in the country!

I didn't see the red or black early 60s Savoys? that I usually see. Father and son. The black one has a Max Wedge and the best sounding open headers idle...EVER and the other has a cross Ram HEMI
Either one would be one of the very few cars I would trade my Roadrunner for.

That’s us! Lol! Dads been struggling with Cancer for the past two years and wasn’t up to making the Marina this year. Thank you for the comments on the cars! We love mopars and it’s what keeps us going! Keep the roadrunner we love your car too! And we have a new addition to our Saturday restoration activities... a 65 Belvedere! Hope to see you at the battleship or in New Orleans soon!
