I have a 69 with HP manifolds.
Adding TTi 2.5 exhaust with H pipe ( Incase I install a GV OD).
Wondering if adding cutouts will sound good? Or if the only sound good with headers.

I’m also installing the Black Widow 250 mufflers.

Thank You

MY opinion ONLY!
Mild street engines sound like **** uncorked, headers or manifolds. It seems you are gonna have a top of the line exhaust system. Why mess with it?

But, for what it's worth: engine masters did a cutout test, for horsepower and sound (which was bogus, in my opinion. A weak, too small system [2 1/2 pipes and turbo mufflers on a 600hp engine] designed to make the cutouts look good).
One thing I took from the episode: put the cutouts as close to the engine as possible. Even in an episode trying to make the cutouts attractive, they said they sounded like **** the farther back they were placed.

Thank You, do you recall the episode?

There's a local guy that runs cutouts in his car, and like 33 said. It doesn't sound good at all.

Sorry, no I don't. I'm 250 miles away from my recordings of EM, but I don't think I saved that episode anyway.
You could try googling engine masters cutouts, and see what you get.
Edit: season seven, episode thirteen.
2nd edit: it was a 598" bbc, with probably 800hp. Who uses 2 1/2" turbos on something like that unless you are TRYING to make cutouts look good?!?

To me most of the people that run those electric exhaust cut outs at cruises or car shows don't even really sound good. They remind me of the scenes when Christine is all beat up and the exhaust always gets an exhaust leak when in smashed up mode.
Hell, on my Challenger I have dual 3-1/2" exhaust under it with mufflers and everyone says my car is still louder than most cars with open headers. However, I have the engine to help make the noise.

yes .... you are correct .....Season 7 E13
They said they sound and perform better 18” after the header. Putting them in front of the mufflers sounds horrible.
They do improve performance, almost equally to open headers.

I agree placement looks to be the key. As for performance I have a lot of other mods and changes to do before I would go with cut outs in my build.

That engine masters episode was designed to make cutouts look good. It's b.s.
800hp engine thru 2 1/2 pipes and turbo mufflers? Anything done to relieve backpressure on that kind of badly mismatched system would look good.
And even an 800 hp motor sounded like s#!t, (they admitted!) with cutouts in the wrong place. What do you think a mild cammed street engine sounds like uncorked?
(My opinion? Not good!)

They don't sound that great, blow a bunch of dust and dirt up while cruising in a lot at a show, and they will leak and fail if electric eventually. IMO spend your money on something else.
