Hey everybody,
New to the forum but have definitely read a ton of posts over the years. Just wanted to share my project I’ve been working on over the last couple years.
My dad’s 1968 charger he has had since 1979. He traded for a motorcycle from a friend who ran the car into a ditch and bent it up. At the time a lot of rust repair and straightening had been done the which had lasted 45 years but was well over due for a proper job. (Minnesota car-man they rusted fast back then).
So my dad got sick and I started working on the car and got pretty far and really debated not tearing it apart but I knew I would never be happy with it the way it was. Pretty much rusted everything and my dad’s patches from 1979 were in rough shape.
Well he’s gone now. He passed away in August. I’ve had a hard time looking at the car now but finally am determined to get the car together, or at least painted.
This car has been through a lot. The original 383 is gone and has a 440 out of a cop car. My dad did a 4spd swap before I was born and we put a Dana 60 in it in close to 20 years ago. Since then car was saved from a house fire and well the car sat out after that for many years.
I’ve replaced a ton so far and getting close to being done with the sheetmetal. (But so far away) definitely not going for perfection, just a solid driver that I can work on as I go. Thanks everybody hope you like the pics. I have a lot more but here’s a few to get the idea. Currently I need to tackle the front frame rails and aprons.

Good luck with the project, looks like a lot of work has been done.
We have a 'Welcome' forum too, why not pop over to introduce yourself? :)

Nice car

How much of the original car is left on it sill ??
Thanks! Well as far as outer body panels. I was able to save the tail panel, roof skin, and cowel. Inner structure I saved part of the inner rockers, inner door panels. Part of the rear frame rails, rear seat pan, firewall and inner structure. It pretty much got the full treatment. I did not plan on it going that way but we all know how that goes.

Don't let up. It seems to hold a lot of sentimental value.
Definitely! I grew up in this car. Was never the nicest car but I have a lot of memories working on it with dad.
The Dana got put in because we lost the drive shaft messing around. The car got towed, When we got home he realized the driveshaft was gone. We looked and looked in the weeds. So dads like well I do have a driveshaft for the Dana in the barn. So we did a gear swap and got it in the car.

This is currently what I’m starting on. I have read through Kern dogs thread. I’ve got the car leveled out and taking as many measurements as I can before I cut anything. The left side shock tower looked like it’s still pushed in a bit.

Good Job!!!! It will be extremely satisfying knowing you completed it and did it right. You can never replace a father, but this Charger will be a great way to honor all he did for you growing up. I'm sure he looking down and smiling proudly. Love it!!!

Awesome car and great story! Sorry for your loss. Good luck with your project. It's gonna be a sharp looking car. Oh, and welcome:drinks:

Like you I grew up in a Charger too. My parents bought this 70 Charger R/T SE new when I was six years old. Sorry for your loss! I'm sure dad would be proud of the work you are doing to save his beloved Charger. Welcome to the site,I am looking to following your project! I don't have my parents Charger, but I have plenty of them.
