Has anyone ever heard of a higher gear (lower numerically) than 3.54 for a 60? Ive never seen them advertised if they do. Can they be made?

There are some old 3.31. Also some trucks had 3.08, but they require a dedicated housing due to the large diameter pinion gear.

Yeah, the dana 61. I guess its not possible for the 60.hence the creation of the 61

I haven't heard of anything taller than the 3.54. Ford used the Dana in the mid 60's in trucks as a half ton rear end (big 5 lug pattern). Perhaps those had the other ratios.

So after trying to find all I can on the d61, I found guys are getting the 61 gears and machining the ring gear and carrier to get them to fit in a d60 housing. My whole purpose for this is im doing a 6.1 hemi turbo build that I still want to be drivable. Ive been looking into t56 or tr6060 transmissions and but its big bucks and some hackery to get them in and clear the floor. I have an 18 spline gear box built and ready to go. It would be a shame to come that close and then ditch it. Ever since I was a young teenager reading mopar mags the hemi gear box and a dana were the stuff of dreams. I could drop to a 3.54 in the dana real easy but im looking for lower rpm on the highway. The issue now is where do you get gears? I will have to call someone I suppose. Cause every where I have looked, nobody lists gears that I want for the d61.

Dana 60 gear

My GTX came with 4.10 gears which I replaced with a 3.33 ring and pinion from a 1978 Ford one ton van ( I believe ). Gear set was made by Dana Corp. 3.33 gears fit the dana 60 and the 3.31 fit the dana 61. No interchange without a lot of machine work. Found my gears on Ebay. Very happy with the change. Good luck

Overdrive? Gear vendors for example. That would get you into the sub 3 range. Just an alternative.

That is my plan right now. Just need to scour the planet for gears or go junk yarding.

Gear vendors was considered but for the price i would have just gone with the tremec

How much power are you planning on socking to the rear end? Do you need to use a Dana? Yeah, Hemi transmission and Dana's go hand in hand but if I don't need the 60, the 8 3/4 gets the nod and there's nothing like a 2.76 gear set behind a torque monster to loaf along at 80 mph.

I see Dana 61, not Dana 60. We tried to find a set for a dana 60, no luck.

I still have the same 8 3/4 housing and axles that came out of the car. I would need to get a center section. It was a thought but the dana is already in there. My sister was good enough to marry a machinist so getting the gears to fit will be easier than making the driveshaft longer. Im still contemplating hitting the junk yards to find a good used set. The new ones are pricey. I will most likely get the car running and driving with the 4.10's and deal with the rear end later.
DVW im hip to the the 3.07 gears because of your sleeper. Are you happy with the gears you have or do you think a 3.23 or 3.55 would be better or worse?

The 3.55 current gear set with 275 radials gives a little more starting line ratio than we like. Plus this engine having a pretty mild cam will be rpm limited at about 140mph, we've been 138mph on a mild tune. It liked the 2.76 but did not like the 8 3/4 at 20 psi when we tried it. The next build is a turbo gen 3 that will see 155+, 3.55 won't work. 2.90/3.0 would be ideal.
