What's the proper method of re-installing the yoke when replacing the pinion seal on a Dana 60?

I've heard there's a crush sleeve that goes in and I have to be real careful to correctly torque the nut that holds the yoke on?

(The car is a '70 Plymouth 440/6 with a factory Dana 60 rear.)

No crush sleeve. When you remove yoke make sure no pinion preload shims are on yoke and get lost. Some dana's have one use nut and you'll need a new one. Don't have exact torque on nut but 8.75 is 250 lbpds

Thank you, Fran.

Never before heard of a one-use nut.

It may not have one, if the nut you remove doesn't go on four or five turns easy it might be one. If its never been apart probably a regular nut.

Following. My shop is doing this job on Monday. Not a Mopar only, I will caution them. Thanks for timely thread. I think mine was dry until the driveshaft was recently shortened.

This is the factory line installed pinion nut.......No one manufacturers these and they are very hard to find. As you can see they are not a one time use nut.....

Use red lock tite on the threads of the pinion and also wipe some gear oil on the seal, if you don’t, you’ll be replacing seal sooner than later. I also put a dab of gasket maker on the OD of the seal to help prevent any leaks.

Pinion preload shims go between the pinion bearings and the spacer. You have to remove the pinion seal and front bearing to get to the pinion preload shims.

If you have a shim behind the yoke it is in front of the pinion bearing. What is it doing there? Moving the yoke forward? It will not change the bearing preload.

No crush sleeve in a Dana 60. That was in 489 8 3/4.

Second time I screwed up about pinion shims.
