So, if I can read this correctly, it is a 64, Console Car, Bucket Seats, Check. P6 which is remote Mirror on Drivers side, Check, U1, Someone ordered the car, so Special Order, Whatever that means?

Then it is a AB51 which is a big block 361 (it has a 2 barrel on it), and is C4 which is a 4 speed, Check. It is an R1, 2 watt AM Radio, check. Then at the end of that line is a 2 under Y, got any idea what that means?

On the Bottom line it starts out 401, but what does that mean? Then the number of the car. Then Body WP27, Suppose that is Convert? Then TRM is P4X?? any guesses on that one? and finally Paint is PP1 which is Bright Red followed by B for interior Black, Check.

So, got still a couple of things to figure out. I have had the car up on the rack and it has Posi Rear, I know that. What might P4X mean and what does the 2 under Y mean in the second line?. What does the 401 mean start of the Bottom Line, if anyone knows? Finally, there is a Star punched in just above the "Paint Code", any ideas on that? Thanks in advance.

Bottom Row (SONUMBER.....etc.)
"SO NUMBER” is the birthday of the car and shipping order number (all numbers are together) All we are really concerned about are the first 3 digits. The first 3 are the Birthday of the car, A = October, B = November, C = December, if there is a number for the first digit, than that is the month, 1 = January, 2 = February, etc..... The other 5 mean nothing as far as the car is concerned. So A11 would be October 11th, and 502 would be May 2nd.

Y2 I think means white convertible top in 1967 not sure in 1966

Wonderful, Thank you very much. She has the Outside Remote on Driver's side. The Y2 is good news as we have a pick of her rather newish with a white top. WE plan to taker her back to Original. So, Sassy is a Big Block, 4spd car with Posi, Buckets, Console, Prem Trim, Bright Red, with an AM radio. That is exactly what she has on her right now. So, we are delighted.

Rare or not so rare, in your opinion?IMG_1541.jpg

Markings from the FActory do you think?? If so, what might it mean? They are on the Radiator Support just in front of the Radiator.

Again, THANK YOU a ton!!!

Best

It is definitely rare. But is it Desireable? My all original two owner vinyl top 67 charger with A/C is kinda rare but..... Who cares...its YOURS!! Enjoy it.

Great Advice. We will make Sassy a GREAT car for the family and for us. My Girlfriend's parents bought the car new ish. It was a demo, we think. So, it is a rather one owner car that served that family VERY WELL. Then my girlfriend drove the car as her High School car and it got put in the shed in '83. It is a nice platform from which to start a project that will bring the family together once in awhile just to see how it is going (priceless). All of the parts are there, full numbers matching with the knowledge that the family took care to keep her as good as they could while living on a Gravel road.

Just think about being a father of 3 in 1966, living out on the farm and going to work every day. Times were tuff. Then, he brings home a muscle car for the family and it took them across the U.S. pulling a camper. What a great story.

YES, we will enjoy it.

Thank you again for your help. I will need more help along the way and this is a good start for me to understand more about the car.

Y2= white convertible top.

401 is the SCHEDULED production date. It may or may not be the actual date the car was assembled. The car could have been assembled a week before or a week after that date.

The remainder of the SO numbers can be instrumental in telling us if the car was built for a special purpose or more about the car. In this case, the 08 prefix is a typical SO number for a 66 coronet.

u/1 just means somebody went to a dealership, sat down and ordered the car. There's not necessarily anything 'special order' about this particular designation. (Yes...it's a concept not well understood today. At one time, people actually went to the dealer, looked through the books and picked out how they wanted their car to look and the accessories. Cars were more personalized. That's why 'one of one' is no big deal. Most cars should be different from the rest.

If it has a POSI rear end then someone put a Chevy rear end in the car. Mopars came with Sure Grip. ;)

The star punches are typical inspector punches found on cars built at the St. Louis plant. Nothing special there.

Production numbers: one of about 373 cars produced for sale in the US. http://www.glenwood76.com/Coronet_Production_65_76.htm#1966
This combination is certainly not common. IMHO...that's a great reason to keep it that way.

Wonderful!!! Thank you very much. She is original and will stay that way. Plan to take her back to the day she came off the line, as close as we can. She has over 100K miles of wonderful memories for that family. We will honor that. This will be a project for me and my girlfriend. She is as much a car person as am I. Lots of hours to spend and lots of love to give. I think that I saw somewhere that they only made 80 something of the 361, 4spd Sure Grip :), Converts in 66. So, she is a bit of a rare bird to be enjoyed for a lot of years to come. When we brought her home after being in a barn since 83, I dropped the fluids, put in new, hooked up an external fuel source, spun the motor over to get oil pressure, and put my Girlfriend in the car with the original key. She started on about the second Crank, held oil pressure and sounded pretty good. Spit out some mouse stuff, but started right up and ran like a top. Soooo, we look forward to the challenge ahead.

Best to you all.
