Defrost setup ac ->non ac

Hi FBBO, is there a fast cheap way to make my defrost working? I have a former AC car (69‘ Satellite) pervious owner ripped out all the AC components. There are only the heater box and the heater control valve left. Dash vents work.
Haven’t found a conversion video or useful tips yet.
How can I bypass the ac water lines so the defrost works like in a non-ac car?

Just let me know if pics are needed.

Are the control cables on the selector levers and heater box ?
Is the flex ducting going to the defrost vents still on the car ?
Are there coolant hoses still hooked to the firewall ?

Are you talking about de-frosting the inside or outside of the glass?

If it's inside, clean the windshield. You'd be surprised how well that fights mild to moderate condensation on the inside.

Years ago, working a painfully boring security guard over night job, I decided to clean the windows in my Barracuda. This used car has cigarette residue on the windows, particularly around the perimeter of the glass, and you could smell it just a tiny bit when entering the car.

I went through two bottles of windex, that night, and 3 rolls of paper towels. Most of my time was spent cleaning the inside of the glass. Cleaning the REAR glass on the inside is a PITA. Just when I thought I had the glass clean, the paper would pick up something and it would smear, again. I kept spraying and repeating, over and over and over, until I could get the glass dry (at night in the cool air) and it not smear and look clean. Don't forget, I was not in a hurry. I was bored out of my mind with little else to do.

In the following weeks, I was shocked to discover how little condensation gathers on the glass when they are clean. In fact, this seemed to last for months. When I did find condensation on the glass, the defroster worked like a charm, within a few minutes on a cold engine, to clear the glass.

Bear in mind, this is in California, where we see very little ice or snow, or temperatures below 40*F. But it was a great lesson. Clean glass doesn't doesn't accumulate condensation (on the inside, anyway) as readily as dirty.

All linkages, cables, vacuum hoses etc are still attached and in good condition. I also have new hoses for the engine to firewall

Awesome story! Cleaning over the Windshield is easy but in my country its a must to have a working defrost. Otherwise I won’t be able to get a license plate for my car. Owning American classics in europe is a pain.

You got new hoses from the water pump to the heater core fittings (the outer pair, not the inner A/C ones) on the cowl firewall? I presume the fan still works to blow air? And the levers, when set to defrost, direct air flow through the vents in the top of the dash?

but in my country its a must to have a working defrost. Otherwise I won’t be able to get a license plate for my car. Owning American classics in europe is a pain.

AT (Austria) is famous for it's bitter cold.

The Fan for the heater box still works-same as the dash vents. I also have the hoses for the block that lead to the firewall.
 
Do you have duct hoses from the heater box / plenum to each defrost vent ?
If not you will need to hook some up.
Close up the fan housing so it will build pressure.
You will need to close the levers that feed air flow to the floor and dash vents and make sure the lever for the defrost outlets on the box is open.
If you fan switch is not working a 2 way or 3 way 12 volt toggle switch at least 20 amp should work for a temporary way to power up the blower.
To get through inspection does it just have to blow air or must it be heated ?

I'm sure you will want to repair the system to original condition and a factory service manual copy will be handy to have.
Just replacing the oem heater switch and replacing the water valve should get you heat if it's still working and the heater core is good.

Duct hoses are installed. Yeah, the air must be heated for inspection. So my water valve is still needed even the other AC components are removed or am I able to hook up the engine hoses directly to the firewall tubes like a non-AC car?
I‘ll replace the stock fan switch with a toggle switch the factory linkage is very expensive.
 
Like Rishi posted, yes you can run your coolant lines to the heater core and use it without the AC parts hooked up.
Just make sure your valve and core are good .
If you do use a toggle switch to send power to the fan add a inline fues. Also make or buy a single mount for the switch so you can mount it on the bottom of the dash.
