Depressing movies that you only watched once....

Pet Sematary from 1989

Saving Private Ryan,, my father was with the 29th Infantry at Omaha Beach. Month later, he was at The Battle of St Lo, which was the town where the bridge scene was, at the end of the movie. A few things became clearer after finding this out.
The Wife and I saw this on our 4th date and were in too bad of a mood to have sex afterward. Private Ryan was a cock blocker.

Only The Brave. It was about a group of Firefighters that ALL died in a huge wildfire.

Those movies were not depressing, just trashy.

No. I was depressed. That I actually watched. I first thought? "There is no way this is about sharks falling from the sky from a tornado?" I was wrong.

P.S I Love You.
Hillary Swank marries a guy that dies....the movie is about how he set up a series of events to help her cope after he checked out.

I've seen "American Beauty" mentioned along with Vanishing Point.
Obviously this topic is a matter of opinion but sometimes a movie is rolling along and BAM, the ending is a dramatic and unexpected tragedy. That can tarnish the entire movie for many. Instances like:
American Beauty.
Vanishing Point.
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry.
Million Dollar Baby.
Easy Rider too.
Some were sad most of the way and the end just followed through.
"Sideways" WAS a slow going movie. You almost have to be a wine fan to appreciate it.
"The Wrestler" was sad but in the end, it was almost inspiring. The guy screwed up his life and was living off of former glory and refused to just sit in a chair and fade away.

The Deer Hunter. I saw it in a Norfolk, Va (military town) theater when it first came out. Very intense. Maybe a tad bit too real, but I don't know. Afterwards, no one leaving the theatre spoke a single word; not even in the parking lot.

Disturbing. Depressing? A very well done movie.

Maybe I'll watch it again.

For all the hype, I didn't like The Deer Hunter or Taxi Driver.

Glengarry, Glen Ross. Not only depressing, but made me anxious watching it. Jack Lemmon's character was a pathetic loser. Sad.

The Wrestler was, I thought, quite amazing. I was impressed that Mickey Rourke took on this role, playing a character so unglamorous and broken.

I've watched Deliverance only once...

I think the movie reflected his own broken life.

Just as JCVD seemed to have a lot of person problems in it for Jean-Claude Van Damme

Gladiator.

The hero of the story has his entire family killed, and he eventually succumbs to the sword. Nothing inspiring about the story at all.....just a lucky guy who managed to stay alive long enough to see his wife's killer be destroyed.

There is so much death & destruction, the killing is so graphic, and at times vile beyond necessary.
It just goes to show what a blood-thirsty lot the human race can be. It's a wonder that we still have enough humans surviving to bitch about **** like global warming.

That is an interesting take.
I still like it even though it was not so cheery.
