Dick Trickle Passed Away Earlier Today

Took his own life. Selfish. Abuse of 911 service, meant to save lives.

I grew up watching him on a lot of the Wisconsin short tracks mainly Oregon and the Dells. It was awesome watching old 99 fly around the track with a cig lit up as he drove. What a throw back!A sad day indeed! RIP Dick.

At 71 years of age and dealing with the pain that he was having to deal with, I don't call him selfish one bit. He helped many on and off the track and was very friendly. Maybe you knew him better than I did but I don't know very many people that can deal with the amount of pain and what all he's had to overcome during his life including losing his grand daughter. As for the 911 call...he probably didn't want any members of his family to find him laying out by himself....especially a young member of the family.

Here's a link I found about it.... http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cu...ide-was-caused-severe-chest-pain-brother-says

I know he was a heavy smoker and I'm sure that didn't do him well and know he was suffering from severe physical pain from cancer or whatever reason. With all the years he more or less abused himself racing, I can only imagine that he must have been pretty worn out. It's amazes me how Richard Petty still can walk around after some of his crashes! I've only had a few nasty go cart crashes and I'm paying for that now and figure that when I'm 71 (9 more years), I'm going to be feeling like crap.....if I make it that far.

The Nascar Hall of Fame has the seat he used when he drove the #15 T Bird. It was custom made to hold his Thermos and a pack of smokes. He always lit up and poured himself a cup of coffee during red and yellow flags. Crazy Man.

The news I read about him said that he had a pain in his chest that the doctors couldn't find what was causing it. And he told his brother that he didn't want to be dependant on painkillers. He came from an era where it was the man and his machine that determined who won the race. RIP Mr. Trickle
