Hello,

I am in the process of restoring my 1970 Super Bee to original condition, and I'm trying to figure out whether or not the AM "Chrysler Solid Sate" radio that came with the car had only a single center speaker in the dash, or if there was one or a pair located in the back tray as well?
Would it be on the fender tag if it had more than just the single front speaker?

Not on FT it would be on the build sheet or window sticker.....If you have neither put whatever you want and yes they had an option for rear speakers.

Get in the trunk and look at package tray. '68's had 2 holes(1 for spkr,1 for defroster fan) they were in opposing locations(sideways & frt-rear)

My 1970 Coronet R/T originally came with the factory AM radio and has the rear defroster option (you will have a rear defroster switch that hangs from the dash if you have that option) the radio has one speaker in the dash and one in the rear tray speaker hole . The rear defroster motor assembly mounts to the other speaker hole.

Would you mind taking a picture of what that defroster switch looks like? My car is in another state so I can't access it that easily but I can ask the shop where it's at to verify if I have this or not.

Sounds odd but the rear speaker was only on the driver side. The defroster fits in the other opening on the passenger side and has a tube that connects to the center of the package tray. When you face the cluster assembly the defroster switch is next to the speedometer opening.

I'll snap a pic tomorrow of my survivor. If ya want. Speaker and defroster grill broke but it's there.

It's a 69 charger but pretty sure the same

Can someone please confirm for me if this sliding switch on the dash is for the front vent only? Is there a different switch if I had a back defrost?

Defrost sw. would have been to left of wiper sw.,my '68 has a removable block-off plate that covers the hole. Believe it was a 1-speed on/off switch for rear defrost fan, mine didn't have that option.

Probably, but back in the day I had 2 rear speakers that I added even though they faced two different directions; I was young and didn't care!!!

Can't get a picture of mine today because my car is at a different location but dieseldazzle's pic of the rear defrost switch is just like mine, just to the left of the heater controls. But I'm surprised by his speaker button, my car never had that and I'm not sure what that would be for.

Shutoff for rear speaker?? Just guessing.Mine was AM only, his looks like Am/FM.

Ya, must be that. Ya oldbee back in the day I did what you did by running two speakers in the back tray, they mount in different directions. I removed the rear defrost assembly to accomplish this. I've yet to reinstall the defrost, still in a box in my garage.
