Did anyone else know about this? Fuel cap holder......

I think one of the main problems with the design is that the tangs don't compensate for the threads where they make contact.

I've thought about bending them each in the respective direction to see if that helps but never bothered to do it.
I noticed that too and thought the same thing.....at least one thing it does is makes forgetting it a thing of the past for forgetful people.

Seems like an elementary physics/engineering mistake and no oversight or QC.

...and it lasted for years and years.

My wife's hyundai has one of the best I've seen. Extremely well thought out.
Fuel door opens further than 90 degrees so it doesn't block the nozzle path, cap drops in the cradle very easily, cradle is tilted back so gravity does the work, but it's set out a bit so it's easy to grab when you're done.

Hey-O, don’t feel bad, I just last year found that in 2006 when we ordered our 2007 R/T Charger I bought a Road Track package car.
We told the dealer we wanted a Tored color with everything you could put on it, for years I never understood why so many R/T’s I saw had chrome grille surrounds (ours color keyed) and seats that didn’t have R/T not embroidered in the seats like ours.
I ordered a build sheet last year and found out that there were regular R/T’s and R/T road package cars that had a laundry list of things like 10 more Hp, custom seats, sits lower, load levelers, bigger air box, different intake, adjustable pedals etc.
Went back to the original invoice and saw I paid $3,200 for that package, still have the car and has always been a Sunday fair weather only car with now 58k on it.
The one time I didn’t look at a quote, and glad I wasn’t paying attention.

So, an "R/T" (Road and Track) model, that has an additional "Road and Track" package?

Yes, after further research I found info stating that the road track package was essentially a Daytona without stripping

Adjustable pedals on this one. Found years later.

Those Mopar gas cap holders are notoriously poor in actual function.

Difficult to get the cap in, but easy for it to fall out...and it puts the cap partially in the path of the pump nozzle so it's real easy to bump and then fall.

There are many MFG that have a WAY better design.

Sorry, but FAIL for the engineering team that designed these.
If it isn't seating good enough, rotate it a little like your screwing it on and it'll stay firmly in place. Been using mine on every fillup since new in 2000. I don't have any problem getting big rig diesel nozzles in the fill neck with it.

wife had a car with adjustable pedals, may have been a taurus. I found it very usefull use to move the pedals all the way up when getting out so she'd keep the seat back, then I could get in the damn thing without going full fetal!

Tried that on day 2, and about a million times thereafter.

Nope.

Maybe yours fell victim to a QC issue when it was built.

...or maybe you've got the only one that actually works as intended, judging by the multiple posters who agree with me.

:poke:
