Today was the day. Very nervous about everything after the big Kaboom. My son Scott came with me and helped tune. Well it went down the track. Didn't spit any parts out. Weather was hot for May in central Michigan, 88-90. Baro was 28.9x all day. Correction factor 8-9% (roughly 75-80 HP off corrected dyno number). Started off with a spinning [email protected]. 86 jets, 34 degrees timing. Not really what we looking for. newly revalved shocks up front. Car had zero rotation. Left flat as a pancake. The front rebound was actually looser than Afco had suggested. Checking the rear shocks, I had the rebound on the right rear full tight. Straightened that out for a near duplicate run #2 [email protected]. Pull the timing back from 34 to 32 for run #3. Well that didn't work. Clean cut no heat on the strap and lean popping on the top end, [email protected]. Video showed the housing bouncing back up into the car as well. Upped the rear compression 2 clicks, up 4 jet sizes to 90's and bumped the timing to 35,. Lots of changes at once but we've got to fix it, [email protected]. Better loosened the front rebound 5 clicks, [email protected]. Loosened the fronts another 5 clicks and bumped the timing to 36. Started the car and a LOUD knocking. Scott is waving at me not to worry. My buddy yells at him "put the spark plug back in". Heart attack moment. Got that straightened out as he was looking for the timing mark on the strap. When up for the pass. It pulled the wheels for the first pass today, not much but we're getting closer. D/A 3778, First 60 ft today in the 1.20's 1.293 / [email protected] / [email protected]. Ready for one last pass the battery charger failed. So all in all pretty good. We can make it hook. Didn't get aggressive enough loosening the front early in the day. But after last years wheelie oil pan smashing fiasco caution was the word. We also talked about the cam being backed up may have some bearing on the 60 ft. I have some larger jets coming. We will continue to loosen the front. The 8 is coming.

Excellent work! So what do you think the different fuel request is from?
 
Never had a chance to jet it last year before it broke. With the Eddy carbs, 34 degrees was not much improvement over 32. The cam is pulled back from 108 to 111. That may have affected it as well. My bet is it may need even more jet. Especially when the air gets better. The timing mark on the strap is close, might be able to go one more degree. The best run of the day was the worst air.

Don't know. I'll talk to Mark Whitner today. My friend Kyle does alot of tuning for drag race customers at Roush. He told me it was popping at the top end. My hearing sucks so I couldn't hear it. When we checked the plugs it obviously wasn't rich. Kyle told me it has to be up around 14-1 A/F to cause misfire. He also gave us a good rule of thumb. 4 jet sizes is worth about 1 point of A/F ratio. Same with timing. Never ran 36 before. It wants what it wants.

Interesting 14-1 is when misfire starts.
You're right...It want's what it wants, it's defiantly making power. I'd just be curious why it wants so much jet in the heat.
 
Kyle has worked on a lot of interesting stuff for Jack. He crew chiefed Jacks daughter Susan when she started racing. Has crew chiefed The Candies Brothers S/S cars. Worked on Tommy Kendalls GT1 road race car. Also he and partner Rock Hass run two very successful S/C dragsters and S/G Corvette. Many time national event winners.

8’s are definitely right there in the air. Going to be some nice new personal bests coming with a touch more fine tuning.

So close, frustrating I know, but you'll get there. I'd kill for your first half numbers. My car went 1.7 60ft, 6.1 1/8 @ 124 and a 9.3 at 155 on the back end. Stock truck converter on mine, lol. Keep at it! Beautiful car.

I would say quite a successful first run there, Doug. Easily get into the 8's.
