Can anyone please tell me what the difference between coils for electronic ign. and points would be. I bought an
Accel 8140 for my new conversion on 67 318 Coronet, seem to work ok, should I change it. Nowhere on it does it say it's for pointless ign..

points and electronic module is only the switch for saturating the coil with current...the coil could care less the switch...thing you need to know is the coil for external resistor or is it internal and are you wired for the proper operation..tweaking the voltage with the proper resistor for # of cylinders for max secondary discharge is also a plus..electronic which is not dwell adjustable..voltage is important for saturation...on the points...adjustable dwell, still voltage is important and if you want hotter spark go dual point with overlapping point closure time for deeper saturation (dwell is actually read as a duty cycle for the period that the points stay closed)

Ignition coil provide spark to your distributor. If I remember the difference is between the primary & secondary resistances....And voltage output......
