hey guys. what exactly is the difference between a locker and spool. I always did think the difference was a spool was made for straight lines and the outside wheel could not differentiate in cornering and turns. (Slow up and Speed down)
And a locker would differentiate around turns. the collar that locks that axle to the side gears would go back out in cornering and turning and allowing for a differentiation.

A locker is a selectable spool of sorts. Through electricity, air pressure or centrifugal force it will engage and lock your left and right wheels together like a
spool. The benefit is that you still have the driveability of a open or limited slip diff when not needed.

Are there any lockers (or reasonable facsimile) that Ma MoPar made? I have the understanding that a sure-grip is just a regular limited slip...

correct marpar. the suregrip is a limited slip. it still has the cross and the pinions inside the case but uses friction discs also to keep the axles locked in. there are some pics on here of the dana 60 and suregrip clutches so you can the dfference in size and etc.

and im also sure you can buy a locker for the 8.75 rear. i believe spicer makes a locker for the suregrip replacement. somebody here will correct me if im wrong.

A locker will allow independent motion between the axle shafts but a spool will not. Spools are ultimately stronger but not very street friendly.

I'm not aware of anything other than a sure grip installed from the factory.

Unless you wanna hear your tires chirp on EVERY LITTLE TURN, go with a sure-grip.
