Dip-stick length 727?

I have a 727 that I have a Hughes dip-stick and a deeper pan, before mounting the pan I noticed the length of the dip stick from the gasket surface.
The end of dip stick is approx 1/2 inch below the gasket surface.
Measuring on the stick it means that the correct oil level would be 1-1 1/2 inch above the gasket surface.
Could this be correct?

I will be watching for comments from someone who knows the true answer here as I was looking for the same information a month or so back. In short, I believe you will find that the proper full level is in fact up in the tube a bit - properly warmed up and measured in neutral. I was quite surprised to be learning this myself. My take away from comments I received on this question were that since I do run a deeper pan I could get away with the level being around the gasket interface. I still find it surprising that the levels should be near or above the gasket line..
I hope someone can give you (us) a difinative answer to this question.
