Hey all, yes this is ANOTHER thread asking for recommendations :icon_rolleyes:

I have a 65 Belvedere II (383 4 speed) that I want to covert to disk's either front or rears. I'm not looking for the "Bling" of a Wilwood system, just something solid and dependable.

Money isn't a huge issue and since I don't really have the time to track down all the parts and pieces on my own I will go with a kit.
The car is currently manual brakes and while it is currently manageable, I am getting soft in my old age so I am considering switching to power. I am running a mid range aftermarket cam but I seem to have OK vacuum ( the heater controls work fine)

I'm looking at kits from Master Power Brakes and PST.

The usual questions:

Other then cost, any reason not to go rear disks?

If I go manual and don't like it can I just add a brake booster later?

"Factory" bias valve or adjustable?

Anyone go power and regret it?

Who does the best job putting all the right parts, pieces and instructions in their kits?

Can I just kick my heels three times like Judy in the wizard of OZ and return to Kansas:icon_lol:

thanks, Bob

I went with the SSBC kit for my '63. 4 piston calipers, did not bother with the crossdrilled rotors. The kit came with everything needed right down to the cotter pins.:blob1:

Did the same thing on my E-body. about 5 yeats ago... never had an issue and they have been "tested" on occasion... do have slotted rotors tho...

A lot people may not know, but we do carry/offer SSBC line too and we are competitive with our pricing and member's discounts.

Thanks

I went with the Summit Racing kit, basically a SSBC kit in summit packaging (still says SSBC on calipers), came with all the instructions and everything needed for a very economical price and the quality is their. Went with Baer brakes on the rear, but would advise against them if you need instructions, because they didn't come with any and also the calipers had to be grounded down to fit my 15" wheel. I also run manual brakes on front and rear, and probably drive the car more than most anyone on this board. No disc brake proportional valve, didn't and don't need it but it's recommended.

Two options:
1. Go to a junk yard and get a disc kit from a mid 70s car (I could not find any where I live)
2. Purchase a Kit.
I went with Master Power but probably should have gone with PST OR Summitt.
Why?
I found some quality control issues with my Master Power kit. (Poor casting on calipers that needed to be ground down)
Also, keep it simple...you do NOT need to spen the extra money for slotted rotors.
PST seems to be better quality.
A good choice for saving money is:
1. Summitt Racings' kit:SUM-BK1208 1962-1972 B-body for $539.96
A good choice for quality components is: PST: DBK DOD621at a cost of: $629.00
Do not forget, PST is one of our vendors and they offer a 10% discount...with discount: $567.00

I did my 70 superbee...
My opinion is: Rear disc brake conversion is "overkill" for my application.
