My #1 spark plug wire is at the #3 spot on my distributor cap. And to get proper timing, the vaccum advance is rotated all the way up to the coil (440). Does this mean I'm 180 degrees off on the proper installation on the distributor? Thanks

Sounds like it to me.My manual shows 4+8 at the front 5+7 toward the rear.

If the car runs it's not 180 deg out. It will run no matter where #1 is and no matter where the vac advance is pointing because the timing is relative to the dist cam vs. crank position. There is a correct setting for the drive gear slot and that is found in the manual. I believe the slot should run along the crank center line. Then on TDC firing put the #1 wire in the proper position and that's that.
