I have been running a 8388 MSD "Ready to Run" distributor which replaced the original points distributor (68' small block 318) on an already hacked wiring harness that I modified years ago. In order to clean it up I'm installing a new M & H engine harness but would like to keep the MSD. The MSD has the three-plug connector running from the base of the distributor and plugs into the matching plug which runs from the coil and ground as pictured below. It looks like the blue distributor wire from the old harness is/was being used to power the electric choke on the carb. I believe the blue wire from the new harness should be connected to the positive coil terminal and, I've been advised the ballast resistor could be bypassed. Am I right or am I wrong?
Thanks for any advice!

Yes bypass the ballast resistor. If you want to keep the stock look you can just solder a heavy gauge copper wire across the back of the ballast. You can also just eliminate it and connect the wires together.
